Too much light?

Hey Now,

I am upgrading my lighting for my 30breeder LPS tank. I plan to get a hamilton or PFO halide hood. I am wondering if getting the two socket 250watt single ended bulbs would be too much for the 30 breeder? I am thinking of the 250 rather than 175 since I may upgrade to a 65gallon in another year or two.

What do you all think?

Thanks!

take care,
jared

Yeah 250 watt MH on a 30 breeder would be a waste of electricity. Even a 175 would be high, but would be more reasonable. How tall will the 65 be if its under 18 inches then 175 would be plenty.

Hey Now,

Yeah I suppose you are on to something. That would be alot of electricity wasted. The 65 gallon unfortunately is 24inches deep.

Thanks for the reply!

take care,
Jared

I would get the 250, keep it up high for the smaller tank, and when you get the 65, you will be able to keep sps. I wouldn't run any less than 250 on a 24" high tank, but I don't like the rock wall look and would like to have stuff on the bottom. The cost of electricity between the two is trivial compared to overall setup.
