sorry and thanks for helping out this newbie.. Just getting started in a FOWLR... so far i have two clown fish and a small clean up crew.. 46 gallon bowfront.. Just wondering how this live rock setup looks and if its too much? i never weighed it..for all i know i could have 100 pounds in here..LOL... pain in the butt setting up so i dont want to remove it just to weight it..but hopefully then again it doesnt weight too much and crash thru my floor...LOL.. either way does give my fish room to swim? i would like to add more fish when i have the chance. btw, that filter in the background will be gone in a few days.. i ordered a skimmer yesterday....thanks.

You don't seem to have to much rock in there. I highly doubt that's 100 lbs of it though. I have more rock than that in a 55 and it's only 45 lbs lol (unless your rock is extremely dense which u wouldn't really want IMO the more porous the better.) You could probably add more too if u really wanted. I always add a 5lb piece a few weeks before I plan on adding a new fish if possible. There isn't really a limit on how much you can have. Since it's a small tank all your fishes will be of a smaller variety so you won't need the swimming room say for a tang anyways. It'll just add to your filtration. :) good luck!

I don't think you have too much either. I do want to ask if you have those rocks permanently attached to each other or are they just sitting there on top of one another? If not they could and will get knocked over. It is however a very cool aquascape!

I dont have them attached

I dont have them attached

how would I do this? I hate to take them all back out again...but rather be safe... I can hit them with my hand and shake tank and they dont move a bit.... but how would I attach them? is there anything that I can apply right in tank? or do they all have to come out? thanks

coral glues or putty epoxy purple to match coralline algae, the putty will set under water, just dont play with it too much it will drive your skimmer nuts and put a purple tint to water for a short time, I use a small bowl outside the tank to attempt to wash off the putty before applying to rocks

ok, do i have to take everthing out? or can i just take out the top pieces, stick the epoxy to the bottom and then set them right on top of the middle rocks under water? I hate to take them all out... will the epoxy stick right under water?

I agree with the others all good products. Just start on one side and do them in sections. I wouldn't worry about the bottom just making it hard if not impossible to knock over the top smaller rocks. You do have a very cool looking aquascape but when I look at it I think it looks "tippy" I just want to save you trouble down the road. It's much easier to deal with now than once your tanks been up running for a year or so. Trust me I know :D

Yes it can all be done wet underwater Search Youtube there are many video's on rocks and aquascaping

yea i agree with them its not to much rock at all and it does look like it could topple over. i wouldnt bind them together inside the tank.

well lets see.. i had a tube of jb weld water weld that i used last month on my pool.. I just used a bunch of it on the top arch.... hoping it sets up under water and doesnt hurt the fish.... i am assuming the white mold will eventually turn the color of the rock once algae sets up?

i found some jb water weld this morning in my house..i used some last month on my pool... I just used the rest of it on the live rocks.. i kept the rocks right in the tank and put the water weld on while rocks in tank... its not perfect but i assume still better then nothing... I googled and found that the water weld is ok with fish and shouldnt hurt them... i hope this is true, if not, im in trouble.. I have two clown fish in the tank... so far in one hour they seem ok.... hopefully that jb water weld will setup under water... after 1 hour its still not as hard as i like it to be... once again, im sure its better then nothing.. and if it semi works, i can always get another tube and add more on here and there.. this way i dont have to take the rocks out at all..

Your skimmer might act up a bit from the use of the "rock glue" but other than that your tanks and clownfish will be fine. You're doing exactly what I would do given the same circumstances.

thanks, actually my skimmer wont be here till next week..using an aquaclear 70 filter right now.... another dumb question. would it be harmful for me to get another tube and use another tube tonight? i think one more tube would complete all the top pieces.. i didnt get a 100% seal with the first time around...it stuck, but could be better..i would like to add more epoxy on the spots that i missed...especailly now that i can push even harder.. would two full tubes of epoxy kill my tank and fish?

Absolutely go ahead and get it all finished tonight. This way you're done with it. I can promise you that you're going to be very glad that you did this in the long run when you're not having to constantly keep fixing the aquascape.

I just noticed what oldbones posted and will have to disagree with him. I don't see any reason to do this twice as much of this will filter out anyway. It's not like you're going to dump a large amount in there. Just get it over with.

im in my 2nd tube

im in my 2nd tube

of jb waterweld right now.. i think maybe i will do a 25% waterchange tonight just for safe messure.. Job doesnt look pretty... and i doubt it will hold up to an earthquake, but atleast its better then nothing and should hold up to an occasional bump from the fish now...like i said, its not perfect and i wouldnt trust an earthquake, but it holds now when i move everything...

If you do plan on going with coral later on your aqua scape has very little footprint for it. With the height of the structure and the sheer face you will have a hard time placing corals. Just my .02 its your tank whatever you like matters.
