Too Much Rock?

Hi all,

Just finished my aquascaping in my BioCube 32g.
Took me a VERY long time, now need some opinions!
Wondering if I have too much rock going on? (30 lbs live)

Not too much. It does look pretty jammed together, but you can never have too much. Try to give it a look you would like. I suggest you look for biocubes picture and mimic an appealing rock scape.

ive got way more than that...its tough to move after you get it going so find other pictures to mimic the aqua scape and glue together with epoxy puddy

I like it. Lots of room all around to clean. The view from the front gives it depth. Lots of room for corals.

I like it too! I've got quite a bit more too in my cube. Echo the thought -- keep the rock far away from the glass like that. I didn't and have sections of glass now that are a real PITA to clean because the rock is too close, and no moving the rock now.

If your not planning to add corals it will be ok, IMO once u buy a few corals u will probably run out of room fast just because of your rock work design.

Not too much, but like others said, you might run out of room for corals. I also think that it's a tad too filled in. I think if you removed a few of the small chunks in the center about 2/3 of the way up, it'd open the structure a little to give it more depth and pockets for fish and shrimp to shelter in/under.

my bio cube... It wouldn't hurt to add more rock... it helps to filter your water. My fish love to swim through the arch and other crevices. I also think you may want to ditch the egg crate.

the OP didn't respond, the egg crate protects the glass from the rock


arguably it also encourages dark life that is part of the ecosystem

consider less sand to keep it level with the trim line. Sand above the trim line will form algae along the glass, and if more than an inch can become detritus traps.

I and most everyone else in the '80s, '90s, '00s, and present just put the rock right on the bottom. Leave the cutting board and definitely the eggcrate out. It's a very efficient detritus trap. I never seen or heard of a tank breaking from a rock slide.

I have used the egg crate for BIG rocks but even then I cut it just slightly larger that the base of the rock. With a good CUC, I never had any problems.
