Does anyone know an effective way to stop your sand from creating a sand storm in your water? The slightest of movements cloud my water

Unrelated, but who is the manufacturer of this tank? I bought some mushrooms from someone last week who had this tank and it was pretty nice - even had all the hardware tucked in the back.

If memory serves correct, the return was in the top left. Is that correct? I'm wondering if the return is too powerful. Could you adjust it so it sits higher in the tank, or blows directly against the glass?

Either you need coarser sand or you need to let things settle out. If it's a new tank, the cloud will settle as bacteria populate the particulate surface and aggregate. If it's because yourr sand is too fine, you will end up replacing it with something coarser and less apt to blow around.

I had this happen with 'sugar sand', a fine sand. It was impossible. I finally removed it (from a functioning reef, this is a pita, involving one net-full a week, and depending on a remote sandbed during the operation, which took several months). I then replaced it at the same rate, with medium grade aragonite. The fine sand killed multiple hundreds of dollars of corals. Never again!

Having the filtration running will help clear it up too. Filter pads/socks and the skimmer will help pull some of the cloudiness out. Rinse the pads and empty the cup often. I use the fine aragonite sand on my tank as well and it just takes a little time.

Yeah my sand was waaaaay to fine when I started my 29. Made the necessary adjustments for my 75. Did the Fiji pink and have power heads slightly upward too.

I've got the same type of sand in my 75. It took some time playing around with the PH's, but I have it so they can get the detritus stirred up without creating a storm.

When I started my reef , I used some live fine sand as well. I didn't rinse and I had a similar problem. What solved it for me was Seachem Clarity. A little of that and the sand settled in a couple of hours leaving crystal clear water. If you go that route, be on top of your mechanical filtration as it will clog for a little. Also, I had my powerhead and all my filtration on (except skimmer).
