Too soon?

Hey everyone,

After my 50g tank finished cycling, I went out and bought a few snails to try and take advantage of the diatom bloom. (used tape water to cycle & have switched to ro for the rest).

I have since introduced a pair of small ocellaris clowns, they are quite small , 1inch each. I've had them for under a week and everything has been holding steady.

However since they are nervous in the new tank they have been letting some food past them and onto the sand. I'm worried that there will be a build-up until they become for confident.
My snails are no where near the area where they feed and I was thinking about getting a faster scavenger to pick up all the little pieces. Would a peppermint shrimp be a good addition? maybe a skunk cleaner shrimp?

also, if these are good options to grab the scraps, is it too soon after the introduction of 2 small fish to add a decent sized invert or two?

The clowns should be in several weeks of quarantine to be sure they aren't bringing an infestation of parasites into your new tank. Done is done. If there is a parasite such as ich it is there.

Don't hassle them, don't put hands in tank if you can avoid it, give them some peace and quiet, and just let them be. You might add a couple of micro-hermits, who will clean up that sort of thing. SKip the shrimp for now. They make pests of themselves and may annoy fish.

I would get a veggie clip and put some nori on it and let them pick at it. That way you won't get all that excess food messing up your tank.

I was leaning toward shrimp and everything I've read on hermit says that they kill snails to either eat or steal their shells.... I feel that that will be a big issue?
Worst I've heard about the shrimps is they may steal some food from corals (which I don't plan to have a bunch of, maybe a few)
What about the shrimps makes them pests?

If your DT has sand in it, then its not a QT. Do some reading on ICH, as long as there is sand and fish, it will survive. Now, if you just want to add a couple more inexpensive fish and risk it, its probably not a huge deal. Some people are more cautious, but also some people spend more on fish.

Shrimp are fine but can be pests to corals, get scarlet hermits they won't bother snails. Just need to add a few shells for them to grow into.

I never have to worry about excess food because my skunk cleaner, fire shrimp, and peppermint shrimp eat everything that hits the sand. I have a FOWLR though, so I don't worry about them with corals. And I agree with the person above who recommended scarlet hermits. My scarlets are nice and gentle. My blue leg hermits are snail murdering murderers. But I absolutely love my shrimp. If I was getting just one, mostly for food cleanup, I would go with the skunk cleaner. They are vacuum cleaners. And whatever they somehow miss, my hermits get. And whatever they miss, my nessarius snails get.
