I recently used a Brita water pitcher. Chased the clown (GSM female) with a stick until she swam into it. The Brita is clear, so she apparantly didn't see the trap.
I've always used a net myself, just careful w/ cheek spikes on releasing them.
I like the britta pitcher idea, but my maroon is pretty smart, not sure if it would work.
She's a tough one to catch since she sleeps under her nem.
i caught my coral beauty angel at 2:00am with a flashlight and my hand. i turned on the flashlight, aimed it at her and put my hand in and scooped her up and that was it. i would think the maroon would be easier with the nem. i have a GSmaroon and at 2:00am she is in her nem.
I want to catch her because I'm having trouble trying to pair up w/ a mate.
I've caught clowns at night b4 pretty easy, but she sleeps way under and inside rock work, no way to get back there.
And yeah, I do react to stings a bit.
