Top Downs

My tank crashed last spring and it has been a long recovery. For a while I couldn't even stand to look at the tank. Seems like things are starting to go well again so I thought I'd share some top-down shots from today.

I'm assuming this is a tort. It came off the $10 frag rack without an ID.

My cap bleached during the crash but recovered. It's now 2 years old grown from a small frag. It's trying to grow out of the tank now. I can't get myself to frag it yet.

The yellow A. corliniana was added about 3 months ago. It has been encrusting and budding.

Joe the coral?

One of these anemones hitchhiked in. They're reproducing and I'm finding them in different spots in the tank. Love the look of them but they sting any acros they touch pretty badly.

I'd love to know why my pink birdsnests are purple. They came in as pink and looked pink under my lighting but became this purple/burgundy color over time. Phosphate is undetectable w/ Hanna Checker. Nitrate is usually about .1. I've been feeding more to get the nitrate up to see if that helps.

Very very very nice shots. I know the thread title is "top downs" but do you have a full front shot?

I've never seen those anemones before. How big are they?

Your corals look great. Way to keep up with it after the crash.

I've seen quite a few bright pink birdsnests go darker purple. Not sure if it lighting or what.

Thanks for the comments. I don't have a current FTS. I'll post one this afternoon after all of the lights come on.

Nice. Were you ever able to ID those anemones?

No. I always assumed it was a rock or flower anemone. I just looked through google images and haven't found any that look the same. I'll take some more pics of them this afternoon and post in the general or anemone forum to see if anyone can ID them.

After looking through a bunch of pics I think the blue coral that the LFS told me was a tort is really a tenuis.

Very nice come back.....I was going to mention that one is not a tort but it looks like you already found out. LFS not to be trusted for that sort of thing usually.

Ahh. Learned something new today. Well, good luck getting them out.

Tank 2.0 is looking very good.

Your sunset monti has really brilliant coloration.

Thanks! The sunset is encrusting very quickly now. Won't be long until it hits some acros. I've read the acros lose. We'll see what happens.

Very nice! I'd say you got a deal on that $10 rack!
Thanks. Almost all of my corals came off that rack. That frag is growing towards the front of the tank. I didn't realize how nice it was until I saw it from the top. Can't wait to see what it does over the next year.

Very nice looking fts. Nice mixed reef. Do you have carbon 24/7? I see you have a lot of power heads for the flow!

I normally don't run carbon. I've been running it passively in a bag in the sump for the last couple weeks because I just finished dosing Interceptor for red bugs. In the past I've never seen much of a difference between running carbon and not. I did see some issues when I ran carbon in a reactor. I may have run too much too quickly. Lost some frags to RTN at the time. May also have been one of the culprits to my crash. Now when I use it I just do so passively.

Yes I have lots of powerheads. Some of them run continuously. My Evos, two on each side, run off a controller at a 50% duty cycle. Left side is on for 59 sec and off for 59 sec. Right side runs at a 61 sec cycle. The periods are slightly different so the flow in the tank stays as random as possible and varies throughout the day. Seems like the corals like the surging flow.

Hold the control key and press F5. If that doesn't work, then you're probably at work and your company is blocking the images...

Tried that and tried some of Mozilla's troubleshooting tips. No joy but I can see the images in other threads.

Sorry to hijack your thread preef, but who is hosting your pics?

Thanks,
Mike
