Top for a stand?

So the particle board stand for my IM 20 is slowly disintegrating. I found a nice old cabinet online that I'm sure will be sturdy enough, but it doesn't have a top (probably used to be under a counter).

So I only need a roughly 24" x 20" flat surface to put the aquarium on. Does anyone have any ideas for good, cheap, or interesting materials I could use?

I'd probably go get a 24x24" "handi panel" from the hardware store and paint it. Otherwise you might be able to find some cool leftover pieces of laminate counter top. You might be able to find some cool looking marble or granite looking stuff.

Laminate sounds like a great idea. That first layer under the tank really should be waterproof.

I contacted a local shop that makes countertops, and they're basically giving me a remnant for free. It's a Corian / quartz type of material, & I just paid them $50 to cut it to size & polish the edges. A pretty good deal if you ask me. I'll post some photos once I get it.
