Torch Coral help?

Thanks.. is a two and a half gallon enough for quarentine or should I go to a ten gallon? I know the bigger the better but tbh I would probably take better care of it if it was smaller.

it would be fine provided there is lighting to sustain the coral through the QT period, and that there is adequate filtration to keep nutrients undetectable. in such a small water volume, nutrients will add up FAST, so you need daily testing and water changes.

but for a single coral, a well established sponge filter would probably be fine. just dont ASSUME its fine, check the levels.

Okay thanks.

I just looked at it again.. I think it's getting worse. :(

it nees to be in an area of better flow imo
and better light

i got an aussie shipment and all the corals arrived like this ( BAD SHIPPER IN MY CASE) i put alot of the torches in direct flow of the pump to help it shed the bactirial slime that tends to form
i lost some heads but i saved alot

also you have an algae problom big time. do you use rodi water or tapwater? if the coral arrived in good condition lke you said this is most likely a flow / quality issue on your end

any news ont eh CA or po4?

... One person told me not to put them in the flow.. now your telling me it needs more?

It's halfway up. That's the best I can do. I could rearrange my rockwork but that would probably make it worse.

Here is a full tank shot, taken a few minutes ago.

You can see red algae throughout most of the tank, but it's not particularly invasive, or hard to remove. Infact, it's really easy to get off. It looks nice, in my opinion, and I can't see how it's hurting anything... it's not like my tank is covered in cyano or anything.

reefer-

Flow is tricky with torch. Now, you do want some flow, but definetly keep it out of direct current or irregular blasts from the koralia like mine do. You want just enough flow to make the polyps sway a little. This make take some patience and expermintation with placement as the polyps aren't extended at all really. However try to get in a nice calm consistent current area. Less is kinds more with torch and frogspawns.

THANK YOU for the kind reply.

I adjusted the seio again. I don't think it's going to make it. The bottommost head is pretty much gone.. The far right one is, too. And the top two have about half of their polyps left. :(

I don't think it was the algae that did it. Seriously, there's maybe two or three small (less than one inch) clumps of hair algae in the entire tank, and there's a few patches of sargassum (not bad) and the red algae (also not really 'bad').. There's been worse. Also, my ricordia is still doing great. I don't understand why this coral went down so fast. :(

My torches don't like a lot of flow. When I upgraded to my 120g, one torch was near a powerhead (not directed at it tho) and it didn't like it. I turned the powerhead off and the torch expanded all the way out. How long has your tank been up and running? Did you get a final water param check? I bet it's water quality, with the algae you have in your tank, that's what I would look into. Goodluck.

The tank's been setup for almost a year and a half now..
I'll step up my water changes then, since everybody thinks its water quality.

I looked for my test kits.. couldn't find them.. I'll get my mom to get new ones tomorrow and a Lugols dip solution so I'll be ready for next time.

any algae that shows growth ( you say you pull it off. well it came back) means your water quality is off

and the algae it self ( even cyano) isnt BAD but it does show that you have a problom

inanother post you said you use labgrade water. so the po4 is comming from somthing. start feeding less

aim the koralia right at it. what these guys are saying really applys to healthy corals. just aim the koralia at it so that the white slimy stuff starts to come off.
(koralias have an odd flow pattern and youll need to fiddle with it to get the flow actualy on the coral)

trust me on this one
i have torches living in a tank with 6 koralia 4;s that move the whole tanks water at about 6-9 inches per second.
