torch coral

the last days my Torch coral is not opening like before. MY parameteres are Phosphate 0, salinity 1.25, calcium 450, ph 8.2, nitrate 9. Is it because of the nitrates?

9 nitrate wouldn't do that. What kind of flow is it in. To much flow will make them unhappy. Have you changed anything before it started closing up. Water change, add a powerhead, add a fish or new coral?

ya they actually like a small amount of nitrates, i don think that would cause the problem either. i would also say that the flow or the light might be doing it. Change in the lighting lately?

My torch and frogspawn don't open to their fullest when a head is dividing. This usually happens right at the end when the two heads become completely seperate. Only the head that is dividing is affected. Maybe this is what is happening!

salinity is a typo i believe, all parameters are fine, must be either splitting or bothered by some other coral....

My Torch Coral does better with medium to high waterflow. I have mine placed in the sand bed on the other side of the tank where the power head is placed low. The coral waves like crazy and its strings are long, very long. I rund 4, 48" VHO lights, blue, white, blue, white. I have 2 Koralia power heads #3 and 1 other power head running low behind the live rocks. I had 2 stalks die on me after I placed a coral beauty in the tank, bastard. Anyway the coral beauty is gone, traded her.

This is not normal. Torches, frogspawn and hammers (especially torches) dont like strong flow. For best health, their tentacles should be gently waving in a light current. It shouldnt look like a sheepdog with its head out the window on interstate 10 :eek1:
