Torts under Leds lets see em

Here is the pic I promised of my Alabama tort. this pic shows a frag hanging from some fishing line after STN took out the majority. I felt the frag would heal faster hanging and so there it is. It has been under LEDs for at least a half year when this photo was taken. Don't have a current pic as its a hard location to shoot. Maybe if I can get hold of a top down box I can get a more current one.

Frick, that's a sweet Bennett tort! I have one and I recently cut it down to size and sold some frags. All of them that are under LEDs are doing great and some of them have grown out great. I have not seen many Bennett torts do you know the story behind it? I tried tracking the lineage but the guy on here it came from around 6 years ago hasn't got back to me. If you know anything about that coral please let me know, it's one of my favorites and I like the lineage stories.

I am assuming the lineage is traced back to a guy named Sean Bennett though... :)

Also I sold a frag of the sean bennett tort to a friend over a year ago and he has been growing it under LEDs just fine. I will see if I can get him to post a pic for you guys. Last time I saw it it was grown in nicely.

I believe him and Tyree were both going back in forth with the name crazy, the difference is Shawn's names were based on his lineage followed by species.

If this is the same guy I do not believe he is reefin anymore.

Now mine come from a local and I did not get a full line of lineage, but I trusted him enough to believe it was valid. I would change it if I found out other wise.

Thanks I never knew that! It's my favorite coral I just had to ask. I would post a picture of mine but its under halides with I only a few LEDs. It's pretty blue, if I can get my friends pic on here I will post for comparison.

First of all, sorry for the horrible photos. I bought a cheap lens tube but it's far from ideal. I've got to invest in a decent macro lens.

My torts have been under my Kessil A350 for a little while now and are doing pretty well.

I was given the Oregon tort from an awesome fellow RC member and I bought the Cali tort from Neptunes in Milpitas. It came from an employee's personal tank and I have no idea what kind of lighting it was under. You can see from the before and after shots that it's grown pretty well and is much less green than it used to be.

The Oregon tort has grown much slower and the color in the photo isn't perfectly represented. It's more turquoise/purple than the dull purple in the photo.

Oregon tort after about8 months under my Kessil A350:

Horrible shots of my Cali tort but you get the idea. This puppy has been my fastest grower of all my SPS frags:
Here it was when I first got it:

Here it is now:

I kinda wish there was a poll going to see what LED has the best success with Acropora tortuosa to go along with this thread. It might give some insight to what they need for lighting requirements ( spectrums and wavelengths, intensities and the focus of those intensities. )
