TOTM quality 6' SPS tank for under $1k? The 5.56 build thread; AKA a really bad idea

To get good DOF you need to Close down the apature which means high ISO and slow shutter, that’s where the tripod comes in.

Yes, I agree, you need it for slower SS (shutter speed). Only time I use one is when I'm doing Long Exposure, like 2 minutes SS, like this one below. But for regular shots, I try to increase my SS to a safe speed (usually 200, but depends what lens I am using,. e.i., you can do 1:1 on focal lengths like 50mm, you can go down to 50 ss.), since going up to 1600-3200 ISO is a usable image if exposed correctly.

Also, if you're using flash, SS doesnt matter. Because it freezes the subject. (I know, it doent apply for our Aquarium photography though)

PS: even if you’re using tripod, when your subject moves, like a fish or polyps swinging around, you still get blurry subject, unless you have flash or 200+ SS

Wow awesome pics neighbor, what lens are you using and how do you set your wb to take pictures that good. I'm still in the dslr beginning steps.

Manny

Thanks, I think most of them are canon 60D or the 10 year old canon 5D., the macro shots ones, usually I'm using 50mm with an extension tube. And once in a while, the 100mm macro lens.

For WB, i don’t mess with it. I’m too lazy to make a custom one. I just leave it set to Auto (that’s the only settings in my camera that I don’t change when taking a photo that has to do with aquarium. LOL) then I just correct it from Photoshop Camera Raw. (Lightroom is better, but I’m not used to it)

I see, yea the most cheap macro canon lense I've seen is like 250 but a used one and it's the 100mm one. Yea I really dont want to go with orange filters since they make the colors look a little more unatural, I'm going to have to research abou that WB gray card. I've heard about using them to set white balance but idk how would it work. Ugh i need a tripod too lol

I can lend you my Canon 100mm macro for you to try. So you can decide if its worth to buy or not. Not the best, but will do the job. (people say the L version is just a hair better than non L version, image quality wise. Only difference is the Image Stabilization)

Or, you can try my Kenko extension tubes with your kit lens. They're Auto focus, but super slow to lock. LMK

That would be great, I'm looking into getting some extension tubes and still debating about that macro lense. Kinda outta my budget right now.

Extension tubes are really cheep, like $60 on eBay for ones with AF contacts. I actually bought binge from a local camera stor for $100 just because I wanted someone to assure me that it worked with my gear.

sil40sx, wow, you were winding your own could in 13”? You were way ahead of the curve. And shot in jpg too, you did get lucky LOL

when i'm highly zoomed in, what i like to do is shoot on a quick timer. so i can press the button and then stabilize my hands. it reduces my camera shake when the shutter goes off. Beats pressing the button and slightly moving the camera due to the pressure

I actually ordered but didn't receive yet a remote shutter release. That and I shoot in mirror up mode because the mirror shakes the camera to see with a 105mm with 62mm of extension tubes regardles of what tripod you are useing.

Hahaha yeah, I started the photography hobby a while back, but only doing it once in a while. Like when I'm in a mood, or bored. LOL

Oh, the picture I screenedshot was post processed that's why it's already jpeg. I shoot raw 99% of the time.
