Dear all,

I saw the skin of my purpple tang was hurt this morning. Some tentacles of the pink haddoni still on his skin.

Can his skin recover himself?

Thanks so much

Probably not. I'd QT and put it through anti-bacterial treatment. Even if the anemone sting doesn't cause terminal damage, secondary bacterial infections can cause significant harm.
Maracyn 2 or Cipro are my go to fish meds for bacterial infections. Furan 2 works too.

My powder blue is the dumbest fish. After 15 years with me and multiple carpets, he finally got stung by my 20" haddoni a month ago. Guess what, he is better than new now. It took about a week for him to recover. He looked horrible. Not a trace of the burn left. Like it never happened.

I agree with antibiotic treatment, though.

Purple tang is a very hardy species. Mine has survived worse, I'm sure he will recover. Fish are not dumb Marina, people are. On the reef a tang would rarely come in contact with a carpet anemone. Any tank is relatively tiny so a chance encounter is inevitable.

Many thanks friend :)

I think you are right. Do you think he will recover without any trace of the burn left?

Oh you do not know this particular tang. He did not get into the anemone by chance, he outlived many in his 15 years. He constantly entices my foxface, who is bigger than him. Finally she has had enough. His choice was to get stung by the foxface and most likely die or brush against the anemone. His injury was his own doing. He got plenty of warnings from the foxface, but he is dumb and a jerk, no doubt about that.

You only say that because you never met my tomato clown. Powder blue is a symbol of sanity compared to her. She was “gifted” to me 10 years ago. She lives to kill tank mates, and now (in solitary) to draw my blood. She is small for a clown, so maybe it is a case of arrested development or a chip on her shoulder, who knows... but she is truly psychotic. And nothing kills her.
