Touching Toadstools

Can 2 Toadstools touch each other or be only inches apart from each other? I have a Yellow Fiji and a Brown Toadstool.I put both of the toadys next to each other. And on the second day the brown toad closed its Polyps and hasnt extended any of its polyps. Is it just trying to shed or is there a problem with it being next to the Yellow Fiji? I have 2 #2 Hydoras blowing practically across it.

Even though they both look like similar toadstools, they can be completely different species. They will have a chemical warfare to fight for territories.Just today I moved one of my leathers to the other side of the tank.It was encroaching on my green polyp toadstool. One of the two would close up for a couple of days at a time.Whereas they never did before they came in contact with each other. You never know though. What works for others may not always work for you.You will just have to experiment to find out if they will get along or not.Good luck!

fiji yellows are not a toadstool as far as i know...they look close, but they are a different species...whats more, its nearly impossible to get a true ID on leathers, so i hear..

Anyways, i've got a green toadstool, regular gold/brown one, and a fiji yellow leather all in the same 40...they've all touched for extended periods of time and all seemed to not notice/care about each other...i saw no ill happenings.

But also...its only the second day they've been in there...thats no time at all really. You'd have to wait and see after they're done acclimating to your system...move them apart for a few days...then once they both start opening, you could move them back together again to see if it really was because they dont like each other or because it was just something with the system. Which reminds me...check all your params!!! :)

We have 4 different toadstool leathers in our tank (3 of which no larger than a golf ball) and every so often they'll touch, even for several hours or a day, with no ill effects. They've all been in the tank now together for >6 months, so if something was going to happen, I would think it would have by now.

Granted, I couldn't tell you what species any of them are, which might make a HUGE difference, but none of the ones we have are a yellow Fiji leather.

Does the one that's closed up have a glossy / waxy appearance to it? That's pretty much a tell-tale sign that it's about to shed.

A week and a half is a bit longer than anything I've experienced. Ours have gone up to 5 days, but that's only been after I do something to seriously agitate one of them... like the time I moved one and had to separate it from several rocks it had attached to.

Does yours otherwise still have its normal color?
