Tough decision to make...

Well, we've accepted an offer on a home and if things work out with the inspections, we will be moving to Catoosa in the near future. I now have an extremely tough decision to make...whether the tank comes with me or not. I have been in the saltwater hobby for 5-6 years now and have really enjoyed learning and making friends with all of you that share this same obsession. My journey has taken me from a couple of fish in a 46 gallon bowfront to now with a 200 gallon with numerous coral and fish.

Even though I have a passion for this hobby, I'm at a point in my life where my time and funds could be better directed elsewhere. So if I do decide to call it quits, I want to give a big thanks to all those that have inspired and mentored me over the years.

Tim,

if you break it all down, and sell it... you WILL be building another system in no time. doing that will cost you a bunch of money all over again. I say just move it!

but if not, let me know what you have for sale. LOL

i vote for moving it to the new house. if not i call dibs on your massive setosa colony!! LOL!! JK

but seriously, i was hoping to see your tank and now if your breaking it down i never will. its always sad when somebody with such a mature tank tears down.. but one day the reef bug will bite you again!!

I have an idea....maybe we can all get together and BABYSIT your stuff for you until you have the time to get back into it...lol.....really we were looking forward to seeing your tank. I think we all feel that pinch in the wallet though so whatever decision you make...you would be MUCHLY missed.

I will say this,If you decide to keep it I will totally help you move it! I am sure there are others that would volunteer there time and energy to help you out also!

Hey Timm give me a buzz,Jena and I thaught that sometime before the holidays we could maybe get the girls together(maybe go eat or something). Thanks Scott .T

Thanks so much everyone for the kind words and offers to help move the tank. I'm still undecided on what I'm going to do, but I think I'm leaning towards downgrading to a smaller tank. I'm thinking maybe a 50ish gallon cube so if anyone knows of any good deals or set-ups please let me know.

Sounds good...maybe we could grab a bite and take the girls to go see the lights at Rhema or something.

There is a nice 50ish corner tank on craigslist right now. Complete setup for $400.

There is also 92 gallon corner with MH and sump and everything for $500. lol

When u do downsize, if you need someone to babysit some corals... Let me know. I'm right around the corner in the Turtle creek shopping center and my house is a mile away. I've got 5 tanks that always have room! :)

Tim

So sorry to hear of you dilemma. I understand that little children are not cheap. Look at it this way, I know you have always wanted a reef ready tank and this would give you an opportunity to have a reef ready tank and you could go a little smaller (75 or 90) hint hint and it would be less to maintain. You could keep you favorite corals and make some funds from the other ones to fund the new set up. You could keep you R/O unit and major equipment for the new tank. You will be missed as you are a great guy.

Happy Reefing

Lori

Tim that sounds great to us,Lilly is just starting to catch on to looking at the Christmas lights that our neighbors have put up around our house!
Just give me a ring and let us know what date is good for you guys. We are open most of the nights.
Thanks Scott t

Well, I have some good news and bad news...

I'll start with the bad...I have decided to get rid of my current tank. The good news is I am not getting out of the saltwater hobby completely. The compromise is I am going to be replacing my big tank with two 34 gallon Solanas. I am planning on doing a SPS tank and an anenome, zoa, LPS tank. It is going to be very difficult to part with my current tank, but on the other hand I'm excited I still get to be a part of OMAS and the saltwater hobby.

With that said, I will have lots of stuff for sale in the downgrade. I will probably try to put a list together once I figure out what I want/need to keep.

Thanks again for all the encouraging words!

Congrats on the decision to set up the new solanas. Setting up a new system is always alot of fun atleast to me. :mixed:

That is great news.I honestly did not think for a minute you would get out of reefkeeping and not have a tank at all.
Just let us know if you need anthelp with taking down or putting up the new tank!

Are you guys gonna be at the omas Christmas party? Me,Jena and especially Lilly hopes to see you guys there!

Happy Holidays

I am very interested in all your stock please contact me back

Thanks for your interest in my stock. I've already had a couple contact me about the live stock. Once I get the solanas up and running here in a month or so, I will know a little better what live stock I will have up for sale and what I plan on keeping.

Well, I picked up the two 34 gallon tanks last night. I'm looking forward to getting these babies set up, but we still have several weeks before we close on the new place. I'll try to get a picture of the two setups tomorrow. Like I've mentioned previously, I plan on setting one up dedicated to SPS and the other dedicated to LPS, zoas, and softies. I'm afraid when I go to downsize I'm going to run out of room fast in these 34s.

I have been making up some water to do a cleaning and water test. Here is a picture of the two solanas. They are pretty slick looking, and I hope I'm really going to like them.
