Treating fish for diseases

I currently have a few fish in qt and one of them is looking like it has something I'm not sure exactly what it is and can't get pictures till tomorrow at the earliest, but it is a secretive wrasse and it has a couple white spots (not ich spots are much larger than ich spots and elongated). There are only maybe four spots total on both sides of him. You can't see the spots when you're looking head onto the fish but when looking at his sides from an angle you can see them. He started off eating very well but eats less and less each time I feed. Also one of his eyes seems a bit cloudy. Obviously I don't expect anyone to give me an accurate ID of whats going on with him, but does anyone have any idea on what I should start off with for treating?

Sounds bacterial if only one of the eyes is cloudy. Lymphocyctis is also bacterial and can present itself as white cottony spots on the fish (easily mistaken for fungus). Generally these things will go away with good food and pristine water.

I am going through the same thing with one of my clowns right now without the cloudy eye.

So would you recommend just letting him be and not use any medications. Also would you suggest moving him to the DT so he would have a more pristine water source and more rock for foraging or just leave him be? Is Lymphocyctis a contagious threat or is it more localized?

I am leaving mine be for the time being mostly because I have another fish in my QT right now and can't treat in the DT. Once the other fish is out if the spot isn't gone I'll treat with Prazi and Maracyn 1/2 just to make sure everything is covered.

I just never want to lose a fish because of lack of action/treatment on my part again.

Ok thanks for the help. I'll just keep an eye on him and continue to feed him a mixed assortment of food and treat later on if the situation doesn't improve.

Definitely keep an eye on it. If both eyes go cloudy look towards water quality issues, particularly ammonia.

Ok the water quality issue is what I'm most concerned about. My qt tank is basically some spare LR a heater and powerhead. So the only real filtration is biological. Thats why I was thinking it might be beneficial to move him to the DT which has very stabile and pristine water quality.

Prazipro can be added without ill effects, also as a preventive for internal parasites.I have a yellow tang in QT that was showing signs of internal parasites last week,so i treated the tank with prazipro and yesterday the belly wasn't sucked in anymore,it was looking more normal. The red sea sailfin is very FAT and eats anything that hits the water.I would treat with something just to make sure.

Generally, you do not use LR in ?AQ, as it absorbs meds v& will leach them back into the system, possibly overdosing the fish., A sponge filter will do. Always keep a spare in your sump for this purpose & it will always have nitrifying bacteria on it. You can bleach it out when QT is over. There is also a large chance you may need to treat with antibiotics in QT & that would wipe out any good bacteria in there. Large WC are usually necessary.

Pufferpunk,
I do keep a sponge in my tank for these situations. I was using some spare LR from the fuge because I have not medicated the tank yet and one of the fish in the qt was a cherub angel. I wanted some rock for him to graze on. If I were to decide to medicate the rock would be removed for the reasons you mentioned. I just did a 25% water change yesterday and will probably do another this weekend. I will try and pick up some SW melafix on my way home from class today. Thanks for the help guys.

Hey quick question, by no ill affects, is this safe enough to put it in the DT tank?
