Treating for AEFW

I have put all my sps in my frag tank and dipped the corals twice with revive. I did it 5 days apart. I'm going to go 6-7 days for the next treatment. Some have RTN'd to death and some don't look real good. i even backed off the instructed dipping time and cap fulls per gallon

I'm concerned they aren't holding up as well as I had hoped. I really need to dip them 3 more times. I thought revive was pretty easy on the corals.

I think you need flat worm exit...revive is actually strong, a lot of people use bayer pest something as a dip but flat worm exit would be the best route

Treating for AEFW

Use bayer. Much more effective and easier on the corals. I don't think fw stop works on aefw.

Sucks to hear you have them and I hope anyone that grabbed sticks from you in the past dipped at a very minimum. They are a real pain to get rid of.

I've got bayer insecticide so i will dip them with that. That is what i have always dipped in and yes they don't seem to mind Bayer. next dip will be with bayer.

Thanks

Reefer isn't flat worn exit for the red flat worm? I don't think it's for AEFW. i have used flat worm exit for the red flat worm years ago and it blew them up and your supposed to use a canister filter to collect them due to they release a toxin that will pollute your tank.

I remember reading about an established tank on RC. The sps colonies were large and established to the point that the owner just controlled them with a turkey baster. He would turn off all the pumps with flow and blow them off with the baster. His wrasses would wait for the flatworms to be suspended in the water column and they would just snatch them up. It wasn't the perfect solution to eliminate them but it kept the flatworms under control to say the least.

I am getting ready to treat with exit. Is there a reason to treat my sump or can I shut down the return pump and treat just the display tank. I can reduce the water volume by about 60 gallons without my skimmer sump and liverock sump.
thanks
Jeff

You don't treat AEFW with Flat worm exit. If youre treating the red ones that get all over everything Read the directions. You want to suck them out with a canister filter or they will release a toxin when they die and are left in the tank and you will be sorry you didn't suck them out

That sucks Bob. My condolences.

+1 Flatworm Exit is for planaria not AEFW.

I believe Revive is an iodine based dip, which can be harsh or more stressful to corals.

When I had a raging full tank infection of AEFW a couple of years ago, I eliminated all of them with weekly dips of all sticks in Melafix Marine for 6 weeks. Totally sucked from an effort standpoint but was completely effective. Some colonies went from volley ball sized to tennis ball sized. For large colonies on rocks I had to mix 5 and 2 gallon buckets of dip.

Bayer would work too probably, although the turbidity of the dip would make analyzing what came off corals more difficult.

I just found them in my tank and have battled them about 10 years ago. I found a egg patch but still haven't found any worms. I pulled all my sticks and dipped them last night then blew all the rock work with a mag 5 and never saw one FW in the water column. I also have two of the fattest Yellow Coris Warasses. They are constently picking at my rock. I think they may be eating them. Got all my sticks in a QT and going to be dippng with the Bayer a few times a week. and then sit and wait for the main take to die off from starving.
