Treating Ich with Formalin?

My tank is about 5 months old (fish and live rock), and I previously had an outbreak of flukes (which I treated successfully in the main tank with formalin). I heard differing opinions of the effects of formalin (e.g. you shouldn't use it in the main aquarium) but it worked just fine.

Now, I have a hippo tang with ich and I was wondering if formalin would work well to rid the tank of the ich. If so, how frequently should I treat the tank?

Also, I've read on some of these threads about garlic. I always soak the mysis shrimp in garlic before I feed the fish...what is the effect of the garlic on the ich...Does it rid the fish of ich? Will the ich not attach to a fish who has the garlic in him?

Thanks for the help!

reading the bottle it does not mention ich.

i keep formalin for dealing with brook should i ever get it.

hypo works best for ich.

you need to get everything out your tank and treat with hypo leave the main tank fishless for 6 weeks.

that is really the best course of action.
