treating ich

Ok, so here's the scoop. My fiancee and I have a 125 gallon 6 foot tank. There are 2 clown fish, 2 green cromies, 1 dragon goby, 1 firefox goby, 1 blonde naso tang, 1 powder brown tang, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 coral banded shrimp, many snails, many hermit crabs, 2 anenimes, mushrooms and a few different frags in our tank. Spike (the blonde naso tang) and Candy (the powder brown tang) for sure have Ich... There is no doubt about that. We have been using garlic drops in their seaweed clips as well as some garlic drops straight into the tank. We recently bought Kick-Ich made by Ruby Red (got it cause its reef safe). Done 2 treatments so far. There have been so many different suggestions that we have heard. I hear don't run any media pads at all. I hear don't change the water. I honestly think the whole tank needs to be treated not just the 2 fish...I hear this stuff doesn't work. I hear its the best.... Any suggestions at all? We have the protein skimmer running but its not running to its full extent. We still have the sump running.... without any media pads once so ever.... What should we do? What should we worry about? Any other suggestions....

Well the only way to get rid of the Ich is to use Hypo salinity (1.009 4-6 weeks) or a harsh chemical like Copper or a couple of others. All of these methods will wipe out your shrimp or any other invertebrates. I had an Ich break out in my 140gal & lost all my fish. The only positive of losing all the fish is that I was able to get rid of the Ich by letting it go 72 days without any fish (fish are needed to complete life cycle of Ich) & thus saved all my corals, shrimp & live rock. I then started a 40gal quarantine tank so this will not happen again.

Good luck,

Robka

Robka two weeks ago the same thing happened to me. Lost all 6 of my fish but still have my few corals and inverts. I need to wait another month untill adding fish again, im gunna die!

I feel your pain. It sucks learning a lesson the hard way. I am happy to report that by using a 40gal quarantine tank I have been able to keep my display tank disease free:)
