I am moving this post from DFWMAS (my local forum) because its not getting many replies. I was hoping someone would offer up some knowledge or suggestions. There is multiple days of posting in here. Thanks for your replies.
I have a couple things going on with my fish that just popped up yesterday. I seem some coloration that has me concerned on one of my clowns and my Naso tang. Both clownfish and Naso are still eating really well. They eat everything I put in the tank no matter how much I put in there it seems. I feed a cube of H2O Life Spirulina/Brine/Mysis a day and a clip of Nori every other day. When they still seem really hungry I feed some flakes I picked up from my LFS. I'm not sure what it is but it's not garbage. I'm newer to the hobby but I have done a lot of internet/forum searches and I'm posting this cause what I've found has really concerned me. Black ich, velvet, brooklynella"¦all seem very daunting. I don't have a QT.
I took the best pictures I could but they are still really bad.
I describe the clown as looking like it has a very light layer of film over the head. The white down the side of the body looks a little dirty too. I picked up the nem 3 or 4 weeks ago and up until a couple days ago they would rarely leave it, even to eat. They just grabbed what happened to float by. Over the past few days they've been coming out to rake up everything they can. The picture barely shows what I am talking about but I circled it in red.
The Naso looks "œdirty" in a few areas. The blackness doesn't appear to be defined spots, like what I'd expect black ich to look like. It's more of a general black smudge you might say. He also had a very lumpy stomach which I assumed was because he ate the last clip of Nori overnight.
It got worse today, my LFS said it's probably brooklynella. Not my favorite. I picked up some Dr. G's medicated fish food. After searching for a while I haven't found much information about how helpful Dr. G's has been so I thought I'd post by treatment and share the results. I'm using Dr. G's Anti-Parasitic and treating my regular frozen food with garlic, Vitamin C, and a Multi Vitamin. I'll feed twice a day, normal frozen treated and the Dr. G's separate with a turkey baster.
Yesterday one picasso only showed signs of the white layer, today you can clearly see it and the other is showing signs. Neither appear to be breathing heavier than normal. Here is the best picture I can find of the clowns. Not clear but you can still see what I've got going on here.
The only other fish showing signs of illness is the Naso which has some black markings. have a look...
First report: Fish didn't care for Dr. G's too much after eating regularly today. They'd take it in and spit it out most of the time. Looked like they were getting a little of it though. I will say even though they look ill they are still eating normal food well. I think I'll use Dr. G's for the first feeding from now on when they seem a bit more eager to eat. Also, tangs get a clip of Nori every other day.
List of livestock: 135G

Powder was a new addition yesterday. Bought him before I came home and noticed this stuff. Had I seen this I would have not added him yet. Poor timing. He's eating and picking at the rocks so...I'm almost wanting to give him up to a temp home with someone until this passes but don't think anybody would want to add this to their tank. He's tainted now I suppose.
Hope for the best.
Day 2: I gave Dr. G's first today and everybody was much more inclined to eat it though the clowns would spit back about half what they decided to take in.
Clowns neither look better nor worse, which is the best news. I wouldn't expect any improvement after 1 feeding. I need notice the second clown has some black behind his front fins. Everybody is still swimming normal and breathing ok from what I see. Clowns don's seem to host the nem during the day but at night they still dig in head first.
I got a couple HOB filters I'm going to throw on the side of my fuge with poly filters. I'll use these if/when I need a QT and they will already be up and running.
Day 3: No change really. I'm starting to watch their (just the clowns) breathing because its always seemed to me that they breath rapidly ever since I got them. Both clowns ate well and I fed the medicated food twice but symptoms neither increased or decreased. I had the lights off most of the day because I was working on the plumping underneath and around the tank. It got a little cloudy when I turned the system back on, hopefully that doesn't affect them at all. I'll leave the lights off most of the day today to try and further cut down on stress.
Day 4 morning: I noticed clown #2 swimming vertical near the top of the water this morning before leaving. Normally, I wouldn't be concerned I suppose but both have been nestled in the nem all night since day 1. I am a little concerned day.
Day 4: Both clowns look the same. One second I thought they looked better, the next I thought it looked worse. One thing I do think I am seeing is them getting thinner. I just fed Dr. G's and they seem to eat a good bit but they aren't pigging out. While their body might be looking thin, their bellies look really full. They sorta look like mollies with big round bellies. If they have a parasite do they also have digestion issues? Would this cause the white stringy poo I've been seing?
On one hand I am encouraged that they are still with me, on the other I am discouraged because I've seen no sign of noticeable improvement.
Another thing I am seeing is a white hair algae on the rock work and back of the tank. I don't know that it is actually algae but thats how I describe it. I suppose the uneaten food could be causing this? Maybe I'll try to get some pictures up.
