Hey what happens when you get a new frag of zoa's and they havent been in a tank where vit c was added?? do you just acclimate and they will be ok? or do you have to not dose for a couple days and then start over?

Good question, Nobody has yet reported any negative effects of Vit C.. .. It is suggested to start slow to avoid shocking things, but could it really 'shock' things??

My understanding is most animals can only utilize a certain amount of Vit C and the rest is just wasted... which may explain why some people have gotten by with very high levels of Vit C with no problems.

I'm up to 4,000mg a day in my 40breeder...no problems yet :)

Which is why I take Vit C myself & am dosing, 2x/day. I'm on about 3 months of dosing now.

maybe I should get a cheap frag from my lfs once i get a lil higher in the mg added and just acclimate them and see what happens.

Im sorry guys im really having a heard time understanding this vitamin c dosing and chemical media. I understand the media will take out the vitamin c. But wouldnt your skimmer actually be doing the same thing by skimming it out?

Im confused.

I personally would like to run phosban, carbon, and purigen. but if i start dosing i wouldnt be able to run chemical media

I run phosban, I think the carbon and purigen will remove some but not all. There is a link a page or so back for the Kent vitamin C supplement where they talk about using carbon. My guess that you would have to be using a ton of carbon to get it all out, at least before some was used. good luck

ok.....im gonna play. I dont have any problems with existing polyps per se...but I have been having a few new arrivals that look perfectly healthy on arrival just go on me...so Im going to play with this...and this seems safe enough as no real begative affects seem to have been brought forth.....

sorry for the redundant question, but the dosage am,ount here seems crazy to me.

Am I correct in that for roughly a 250 net gallon system, I will need to drop 7500 mg per DAY??

15 - 500mg pills per day seems nuts.

??

look into 7 1000mg pills or pure ascorbic acid, just watch the PH. My ascorbic acid 2200 mg per tsp. So you would need two in the morning and two at night. I would drop more than that, after you have started, the initial dose. IMHO

So I am correct though on that ridiculous amount of pills???....

and since my wife bought me some today that it 500 mg pills......it shouldnt make any difference besides just costing more......

??

yea it seams like alot!!! I have been adding vit c in my 24 aquapod for 2 days now and havent noticed any changes yet.

2 days will show no effect--be patient. It took at least a week or 2 for me to see a big difference. We just replaced our household supply of Vitamin C. One for us & one bottle for my tank! 1000mg does seem easier to dose.

Ok well 3 days now and I cant believe it!!! my pink zoa's were closed for about a week and now they are opening back up!!! I thought for sure they were gonners!! they had the brown film over every polyp and now its gone and they are opening up!!!
