Treating with Vitamin C

Good luck, you might want to up that to 1/4 tsp in a few days. I'm using that much to lower nitrate & better skimmer function on my 15g Mantis shrimp tank.

Thanks -- I just started doing the 1/8 teaspoon 2x a day today. I plan on upping it in two more days provided my alk and PH stay OK.

I've have a few zo frags that I got a few weeks back that have never opened up at all.
I will start a regimen tomorrow a.m.
Should I start with 30 ppm or ramp up to it?

I will take plenty of pics.

Chart....check ;)

For every 100 gallons:

5 ppm ----- 1892 mg VC
10 ppm ---- 3785 mg VC
15 ppm ---- 5677 mg VC
20 ppm ---- 7570 mg VC
25 ppm ---- 9462 mg VC
30 ppm ---- 11355 mg VC

Just to double check before I drop the pills in the sump.

Is this brand is ok?

I'm no chemist--I don't know what bioflavinoids are. There is something making that into pill form, as pure, VC is a crystal. What do the ingredients say on the back?

"Buffered features calcium ascorbate."

Vitamin C as Calcium Ascorbate 1000 mg
Citrus Bioflavonoids 200 mg
It says other ingredients:
Cellulose, vegetable acetoglycerides.

Cellulose is an inert ingredient.
Flavonoids seem harmless.

Not sure about vegetable acetoglycerides.

Hmmm I think I will try it anyway.

I bought these at GNC instead of the ones with Rose Hips.

Would you recommend the one with Rose Hips over this?

Mine says: Contains no fillers, excipients, lubricants, binders, starch, wheat, soy, milk, egg, rose hips, animal products, colorings, flavorings or preservitives.

I'd be prepared for your skimmer to go nuts, so I hope you have the kind you can adjust for that.

Does it say what the pH of the product is? Mine is neutral: 7.

No, nothing about pH.

It does say:
No sugar, No starch, No artificial colors, No artificial flavors, No preservatives, No wheat, No gluten, No corn, No soy, No Dairy, Yeast free, Sodium free.

I used Sam's Club VC tabs for about 2 months. My skimmer went nuts but didn't really notice any big swing in pH/alk for about 2 months. Keep an eye on those.

I have been following this thread for several weeks now and decided to jump on board after a few of my oldest zoas started to decline. I have been adding VC for about 4 days now with no change. My tank is 80 gallon with a 20 gal sump/fuge. I have a DIY skimmer ran by a QO3000 pump. My lighting is 2x150 watt MH with 14k phoenix bulbs. The tank has been up and running for three years. Here are my before pictures so you can see what my issues are.

If you have any other suggestions besides VC to save my zoas let me know. I have tried FW dips with Iodine.

Well I dropped the pills in the sump several hours ago.
They are barely dissolved...think I should stir them about?

Again... the problem with pills... Crystals dissolve on contact with water. Maybe they are time release?

Sold, How much are you dosing, how often?

I'm dosing twice a day a little over a tsp each time. I was trying to follow the chart you posted and the increase recommendation from the article you posted. I have uped the dose a little everyday.
thanks, Chris

I'm going to give it at least a month. I have noticed some PH swings when I dose a 1 1/4 Tsp. I'm using an airpump with airstone and kalk to get the PH back up. Pufferpunk, do you have any change in PH when you dose?
