Treatment for my True Percs

I posted this in the disease and treatment forum, but I know how often anyone goes in there (usually only if they have sick fish....like me!)

So I finally got my sump set up and am getting ready to treat my clowns. They are both eating well, but have white stringy poop, and are starting to show some signs of tail/fin rot (they are having streaks of no color on their fins, both dorsal, pectoral, and tail), and one has started scratching. So I wanted to run my plan by you guys and see if anyone has any other suggestions

1. I have set up a 2-3 gallon hospital tank with a few pieces of PVC, a heater and a small power head. right now the SG is about equal to the display tank, and a sponge filter thats been running on display tank for about 1 month.

2. I will place the clowns in this tank and start to lower to SG to .009. (confirmed by refractometer) and will raise the temp to about 81-82.

3. I will set up a bucket and do a formalin dip to help rid some of the internal parasites. i will do this per the instructions on the bottle of Quick-cure. I think it recommends 2-3 treatments over 6-7 days.

4. Then place back in hospital tank and continue feeding with mysis, formula one, and cyclopeeze (all supplemented with selcon)

Does this sound like a good plan? Anyone have another suggestion? Also, If I dip them in formalin and then put them back in the hospital tank, will the residual formalin on them kill the bio-filter in the sponge filter I will have on the tank? Also after their treatment and QT is done and they go back into the display, after chucking the sponge from the filter, can I still use the filter, or is it forever destined for QT/hospital use?

thanks guys!

After thinking this over, I think I may actually reverse where I do the formalin dip. Rather then place the clowns in the smaller tank, i'll put them in the 5 gallon bucket and do the dip in the 2-3 gallon tank, which will help with the water disposal.

You tough battle on your hands. I've been keeping clowns for years and really haven't found a sure fire way of getting rid of the Brook. The only way I have been successful is by making sure they are eating, which is half the battle, and keeping them in a tank with "Rally" medication in it constantly. I've tried the formalin dips, but it just seems to stress them out. I would also go with at least a 10 gallon tank. Good luck.

I'm almost positive that it isn't brook, there is no heavy breathing, they are both eating well. I have a feeling its ICH, coupled with an internal parasite.

They have had the stringy poop for over 3-4 days now, so wouldn't they be dead by now if it was brook?

I had the same thing about 3 weeks ago after adding a Lamark's Angel without QT - never again. The Angel died the next morning and my Tomini Tang the next day. One of my clowns died before I could get it into the HT. I treated the other with Instant Ocean Lifeguard for a week, as per the directions. I also treated a small Coral Rabbitfish which caught it and was near death at the same time. Today they are back in the DT fat and happy. The clown's fins were almost completely gone and have now pretty well grown back. From now on, I'll use this product prophylactically with all new purchases in my QT.

i have a true perc that I have had for about a year or so and it has always had white stringy poop. Im thinking that it might have internal parasites too. It also seems like it underbelly skin is see through or something. It really eats well. Idont know what to do.
