Tribal Blenny FYI

Hey guys, Just an FYI because i didn't know, but the info is out there. I bought an BEAUTIFUL tribal blenny a couple weeks ago; Dark blue with light blue fluorescent markings. Blennys are one of my favorites, so i picked him up and in the tank he went. Within a day my green Monti Cap was looking horrible and white, then my welso was down to skeleton. I searched bluezooaquatics and live aquaria before i bought and both said reef safe, but further research shows they can be coral eating machines. So out came all the rocks till i got one with him in it, and back to the store he went. So just an FYI because I have been seeing them at many shops lately.

I think it depends on the fish.... they are reef safe with caution. .. I have had 1 for 4 years now and doesnt touch corals. But my only issue has been him and my kole don't get along during feedings

The blenny shouldn't be flashing his colors..... thats a sign of stress

Like lawnmower blennys, they are known to eat polyps. NEVER trust a retailer to be up front about reef suitability. You'll notice that mystery wrasses (!!!) are also listed as Reef Safe with those two.

Yea, Those pics were only a little an hour after intro, the orchid dottyback kept swimming by him, he didnt like it.

I think td expends on the fish. I have had my tribal for two years and he doesnot touch any of my corals

hm, interesting...I saw these on a sale list for a lfs and he looks cool, but I dont need another problem fish, still trying to catch my goby to put him in the sump.

Although I havent heard of a lawnmower blenny touching coral before...

I've never experienced it myself, but heard second-hand that they can prey on clams and bury coral on the sand bed.
