tricky acro

i got a lovely neon green acropora from liveaquaria and for the first week it did the normal acropora thing of regaining color and it looked good and healthy, well now its tentacles dont come out while my lights are on and at night the large ones on the tips of each branch come out and i have small polyp extension from the others. im a little worried but the thing is im pretty sure its growing, so its hard to make heads or tails out of all this. i know how finicky acros can be so i've done three 15% water changes over the past two weeks and my aquarium is pretty solid. its a 40 gallon sump included with skimmer filter and macro algae. i run a blue/purple and a white/yellow power compact and a 250w metal halide for 8 hours a day. havent tested yet but thats coming soon. and all my other corals look perfectly happy sps included. also im a somewhat experienced reefer and have been doing water tests that usually check out good i just havent done any in the past couple days. throwin that out there so you guys dont think im an idiot tryin to do all this stuff and never even tested my water.

sooo any ideas?

what do you have for flow? how old are your lights? knowing the levels like Ca, Mag, Alk, etc would also help in figuring out what may be wrong.
