Tridacna regeneration?

I decided to try adding a small Tridacna to my reef last Friday, despite owning two dwarf angels (a flame and a Heraldi). On Saturday, I found my Heraldi angel had eaten a hole through the back of the clam. The mantle was untouched.
I made a refuge for the Tridacna out of the bottom of a coke bottle with holes cut in the sides to allow water circulation. The Tridacna seems unaffected - its been fully open every day.
If moved to an aquarium without predators, could the Tridacna eventually repair the damage, or is it doomed?

It can be fatal, but clams do overcome physical damage more than one can imagine and high water quality helps.

Which clam is it?
