with pc lighting - 2 65w (1 10k, 1 actinic), tank is 20 tall.

i really like these clams but not sure of my lighting. the website i found them on only said lower light levels and they like being on the sand.

Interesting link, but I have Crocea and maximas under T5 on the bottom of my tank. I think people underestimate t5 lighting. But I would never put a clam under PC.

i have 3 clams under my 240 w pc's. IMO people must think before they come to a conclusion about clams and lighting. I work at an aquarium store and i explain this one over and over every day. U can keep any clam no problem, just put him high in the reef. my 3 clams i have are 4-5 inches from the top. I angled them in the rock so when i look through the front of my class ic an see the beautiful colors. so yes, you can do anything as long as you physicly give them enough light. use ur imagination people (bottom of tank has less light than top!)

jbittner, your t-5s are probably longer than the depth of the tank, which means it should produce decent penetration upto the bottom of your tank, much more than power compacts. you shouldn't forget that in the end, t5 lighting is still a form of flourescent lighting.

just for arguments sake, i have a buddy mgny on here that has had a dersa in a 180 lite with just vho's from 97. the clam is huge has to be over 14 inchs now.

i agree with what ez said in that link.

i don't see the argument?

his guide says that squamosa's, derasa's and gigas can be kept fine under VHO's.

imo 130 watts of pc will not put out sufficient lux/lumens . i have kept t. derasa in a 18"d ( - a 4"sandbed = @14"d) aquarium under six 32watt zoo med t8"s . i latter replaced the six t8's with four 54watt ho t5's / individual icecap parabolic reflectors . than i added a t. squmosa , last i checked my clams where a good 8" and growing . i've been considering the addition of two more t'5's and adding a t. maxima to the tank .
it's better to keep track of the lux/lum output over the animals . i would doubt that your 130watts of pc's will even give off 8000 , you want a min. of @14000 .

no no no...I know specifically of people who have kept blue maximas under pc, along with sps. all high in the tank..Yes mh or t5 give off more light...but you can do it with pc....I think people that spend the money on the expensive stuff need an excuse for it..i know i would haha...marc price i respect you opinion but throughout all of your light changes you didnt TRY them under pc so you cant actually say they didnt work....overall mh, t5 are better ull get faster growth etc...but pc will work dont try a ultra blue or somethin crazy though
