trigger in a reef?

so my lfs has a 3' niger, clown and humu trigger and i was wondering what kind of trigger you guys have successfully kept in a reef?? im looking for any trigger not just the one's ive listed, thanks

I have a blue throat and it does not bother anything. Easily hand fed and eats any food added but not corals or shrimp IME. Your best bet is with one of the Xanthichthys -blue throat, sargassum, cross hatch.

I wouldn't keep any of these in a reef, though i've seen a few niger triggers in reef but i don't think they were any shrimps are much inverts in the tanks. Kevin gave you a good list of triggers normally attempted in reef's with good success.

I have a pink tail trigger in my reef the only thing he will eat are some snails and pepermint shrimp but his best friend is the cleaner shrimp and my reef lobster
( I think the only ones that can go in a reef are the pink tail and the niger)

ok so as of now im considering the blue throat, the reason i wanted a trigger is because of their personality, i mean my clown swims up for food but isnt really exciting, so is there any kind of reef-safe fish any1 recomends ???

blue throat trigger, i like mine best out of all my fish and it's very docile and has a great personality.

I got a 6-7inch Niger in my 100g softie tank, and he doesn't bother any corals, cleaner shrimp, and is pretty peaceful towards smaller fish as well. He's a huge pig though...great fish otherwise.

i have read that all of the 'reef sage' species have consumed small reef fish at one point or another.
my only direct experience was a blue throat that ate/killed about 11 small fish.

i'm guessing you're looking for a larger fish,,agree it's tough to find something that matches up to their social behavior.
the bolder larger angels, although 'iffy' in the reef, seem to be somewhat personable.

smaller fish..can't beat the blennys..they are the best.

well im upgrading my tank from a 40 to a 55 or my uncle has an old 125 that i can ahve but i have to drill it so if it needs the 125 ill set that up

in my 125 reef I have a pink tail trigger a coral beauty a large blue stripe clarkii clown a blue spott puffer (fiji) and a cheveron tang still going to get a starry blenny and a couple other sand sifters mabe even a dwarf lion
I would go with the 125 if you can you can do so much more I just upgraded from a 75g

ya im thinking 125 but im only 16, the money to st it up is no problem but to light it, i dont wanna run up my mom electrical bill

Incorrect statement. I've kept a bluejaw in my reef and he touches NOTHING but the food I put in. Even saw my cleaner shrimp jump on him once or twice, and he's still around.

Triggers can be kept in a reef, but it can also be hit and miss depending on the individual fish.
