Trigger Tank Thread?

The ones that don't kill each other. Really, through stress or bites. If you have a bunch together and one stops eatting for even one day, there is a culpret in the tank and that one needs to go.

Have a Clown and Niger in a 750 gallon reef for about a week,so far so good. The clown is 8" and niger 6". Niger was in the tank first for about 2 months. Niger went after the clown when he went in, so turned off lights and clown found his way around and could defend himself.

It depends greatly on the size of the tank. Don't think you can get away with what the last two posters mentioned if you're going to try it long term in a 50g.

where did i miss where he mentioned a 50gal tank?
when it comes to triggers and most fish for tha tmatter, you have to go by individual personalities. i have seen evil nigers and ones that get beaten up by flame angels (go figure) and i have seen the bite marks on a persons hand from a clown trigger, and well.... i have never seen a nice clown trigger, but you get the idea. watch the fish in the store for a while, believe me we are used to you guys staring at the tanks for hours. look at the fish's tankmates. are they torn to bits? do they show signs of illness? what about the trigger, is he beaten up, and if so by what? how does he act when fed, or when someone puts their hand in the tank. these are all vey important clues as to the personality of a fish.
if you want a trigger that has potential to play nice, dont buy the one following your finger, he is not being cute (ok maybe a little) he wants to eat your finger, and possible his tankmates too.
generally the nicer species are going to be niger, crosshatch, blue jaw, sargassum, pink tail etc.

He didn't. I just threw that out there as a small tank size that some people try this sort of thing in. I figured it would be less controversial than a 180g (in which I still wouldn't try the aforementioned combinations).

I've have a small reef trigger and a small Niger trigger in a 55 together and they are fine. Obviously as they grow I will upgrade to a larger tank. But the reef trigger grows REAL SLOW, the Niger doubled in size where as the reef I can hardly notice a change, except for his fat stomach.

What are you calling a "reef trigger"? I've seen 4 or 5 different species go by that name, and that makes a big difference over whether it will be able to be kept with other fish for the long haul.
