Trigger vs heater

I just added a Melichthys niger. I recently found my thermometer cord broken. I don't know if he's guilty, but he's my primary suspect. I am wondering what would happen if he did this to the heater. Would he fry the whole tank?

Triggers are known for this particular behavior. And yes, it can fry your whole tank with electrical shock. May have to try and put your heater as close to the water line as possible so the cord won't be in the water that much.

+1 or a protected box if a sump isn't available for some reason

or egg crate if you don't have a sump or overflow with adequate water...
