Triggers and Scorps...

Ok, I'm in the final planning stages of a 125gallon i'll be getting in the next month or so...

so what I'm planning to do is house a Russel's lion, a barbfish(S. Brailensis), a Inimicus(I. Didactylus), a yellow tang, and an some triggers...

how many Melichthys, Xanthichthys could I keep with the priviously listed fish?
I was thinking at most two, 1 bluejaw trigger(X. auromarginatus) and EITHER a Pinktail trigger(M. vidua), or a Indian Triggerfish(M. indicus)...:rollface:

I think I'd start with just one, the least likely to bother the lion. IMO that would be the bluejaw. Pinktails get big, and can get aggressive (I know from personal experience). Indian triggers are really nice fish and stay moderated sized, but may be more like the pinktail in temperament - so I don't know if it might bother the lion.

A 125 is a nice tank, but not nearly as big as you would think. Since your scorps will-be on the bottom, you basically have a free space at mid-level. I think the tang, lion and a trigger would be a good start, and may put you at capacity. Let the fish get some size, observe interactions, and if it still seems to you that you have space, consider adding one more mellow trigger. I'd pick indicus over vidua. However, be sure it's indicus. The other black trigger (Hawaiian) gets quite large.

Triggers are curious and eventually a pink tail may take a bite out of the lions spikes. Once they start picking at something, they just keep going. I have a pink tail, blue jaw and cross-hatch. The blue jaw and cross-hatch are model fish. Never any drama. They do not act like typical triggers. But the pink tail on the other hand is more curious, bites rock, eats corals and likes to chase the blue jaw once in a while.

IME, they've been a little more aggressive than pinktails.
