Trigon 190 questions

I am new to the hobby. I would like to set up a marine (reef+fish) aquarium. I am trying to outline some of the the initial costs. I have the tank but need to know how much substrate (I'd like to use livesand) I need to buy to give me a deep enough base layer. Obviously the live sand is expensive-so I dont want to order too much.

Also how do you prepare the water before adding the salt. I cant really afford an RO filter, so is the Tetra Aquasafe type additive enough? Or is there some method I am missing?

Any help from you guys is greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance

Matt

1 bag of argonite will be enough for that matt, its about 30 pounds in weight and costs £20.00 ish, im guessing but presume your a brit, not many of the guys here know about trigon tanks, 50 pounds of living rock will do and you will need a quality skimmer, if you cant afford a ro-di which are around £100.00 then id wait until funds are better, its an expensive hobby and a trigon 190 fully set up will cost possibly a grand or more by the time you buy the rock sand powerheads skimmer, lighting and constant salt which is required, plus the ro-di unit and corals and fish in the ist year i think a grand is realistic, sorry to be glum, dont forget a sump which i think is important too, although not compulsory, the costs go on and on, its not all at once but with test kits and carbon etc it will soon add up:(

Research what you would like to keep... A reef can include a vast array of livestock. Different levels of start up costs and support equipment needed..

I would purchase everything needed, either new or used before setting up your system. Trying to add at a later date while figuring how to successfully operate can be difficult..

Also if your concerned about the cost of sand and an RO/DI maybe you should spend a little more time on research and planning...

This is NOT a cheap hobby, but can be extremely regarding...

Maybe this was not what he wanted to hear???

And my last word should be rewarding, not regarding..

Spell check works great if you use the right word..

my reply-sorry its late!

I decided to go with the tank in the end-price was too tempting. However I dont think its a Cleair one as I have been to their website and its not on there. Maybe there is more than one cleair? anyways I'll give it a go and keep you posted!

Thanks for your comments! Greatly appreciated!

regards

Matt

P.S. any hints on how to recover my bank balance after buying all this stuff! :)
