i really want to take a trip to the Brooklyn Aquarium. but im not sure the cheapest way to get there. maybe we can do a group thing? i mean i dont want to go alone :-P and my girlfriend isnt as crazy about fish as i am lol. so maybe a few of you would like to go? im just looking for idea on travel and such. cheapest way? fastest way? if others would like to go lets set and date and such and go :-)

I spent a lot of time there. Not the top choice public aquarium in the country but is pretty cool to see. Also great choices of dining in the neighborhood between the Russian and the kosher restaurants. Not sure what they cheapest way for you would be. Jetblue gives out deals to jfk all the time or drive there. Finding a good hotel in that area may not be easy.

do you have any recommended Aquariums to vist? one that is close by i mean lol, only reason i choose the Brooklyn Aquarium was because ive never been there and it seemed to be the closest one to us.

I personally visited Brooklyn aquarium last weekend. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I feel like the Niagara falls aquarium is just as good and for reef tanks I could've taken a better tour around my house (not saying that I have anything amazing to show off). However I will offer that I paid 130 for a flight on JetBlue to JFK and stayed at a hotel in Brooklyn for around 160 a night(cheapest I could find anywhere near manhatten). I've never been there but I've heard Chicago has a fantastic aquarium and a bunch of reef stores in the area. With that being said Chicago is about the same distance from buffalo as NYC.

Here.. some Links as good recommendations:

http://www.longislandaquarium.com/
"Atlantis Marine World"- now called Long Island Aquarium
Long Island-NEW YORK
Excellent displays. Shark tank diving... Joe Yaiullo :)

http://www.sheddaquarium.org/
Chicago's Shedd Aquarium... World Class facility

http://www.pittsburghzoo.org/ppgaquarium.aspx
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A high trafficked quality zoo and really nice aquarium. With some marine displays by Michael Paletta.

http://greaterclevelandaquarium.com/
A newer and remarkable aquarium. Cleveland, Ohio

The nice thing about the PA & Ohio sites is they are very close and amongst a lot of other area attractions in those parts of those states. Less Gas and Budget hotels galore of you wish.

wow thanks! alot to choose from :-)

In the northeast, I like the Baltimore and Boston public aquariums. I haven't been to all that have been listed here though.

Also, they aren't exactly "public aquariums" but the Museum of Play in Rochester and the MOST in Syracuse both have really nice marine displays. Better IMHO than what you'll see at the Brooklyn aquarium. Plus if you have kids you can bring them along and they'll be plenty busy while you're staring at fish...

ive never heard of the MOST?!? where abouts in Syracuse is it located?

I have been to a decent amount of aquariums (Niagara, Brooklyn, Baltimore, etc) and in my opinion if you are going to make a trip of some kind out of seeing one, the only way to go is the Atlanta aquarium. I'm guessing you are trying to keep this to the northeast only, but if there is any chance you can go to this one I can't recommend it enough.

The reef display is absolutely breathtaking and the open ocean exhibit is the largest in the world, featuring 6,300,000 gallons of water spanning the length of a football field. They have 4 whale sharks in that thing! I will post some pics if possible later, but i personally can't wait to go back there.

tossing this out there.....

I've always been interested in visiting Atlantis on L.I. and the Georgia Aquarium. Shedd Aquarium (Chicago) is a must see but I've been there many times. National Aquarium (Baltimore) is great. New England Aquarium (Boston) another great choice and only 6 hour drive away.

The whole Cleveland Zoo is really good and a short drive away.

Took kids to the Buffalo Zoo back in September and it had changed a lot since I'd been there previously. I can't give it glowing reviews but the rainforest exhibit was pretty kewl. Nice Rhinos, too.
Rochester has a nicer Ursus maritimus display ;)
