I sent Triton a message asking about both the packaging issues and the availability of the product. I had to ask twice, as they never responded to the first message, other than an automated response. Here is their reply:
1) It is very well publicised why we have chosen to move away from single-use plastics, please have a read here. The packaging is very suitable to carry chemicals, otherwise, we would not be allowed to use it. The problem that we faced is that the packaging cannot withstand the rough handling that it was receiving by the shipping companies. This has now been solved in two ways, firstly the shipping boxes now offer a huge amount of protection to the inner cartons. Secondly, the components that would leak (3A&3B) have been replaced with powder as it was the strength of these liquid solutions together with tiny cracks formed when the packages were dropped/knocked/thrown/kicked that was resulting in the leaks. We have rolled these changes out in Europe and have seen great success!
2) We have had to implement major changes to the production as detailed above and replaced all liquid 3A 3B in mainland Europe, this was not a small task. The first lots of US product are just leaving or have just left this week. This will continue over the next few weeks until the existing stock has been replaced and in the meantime, a large sea shipment will come over.
I appreciate the answer, but had to chuckle at the statement about the packaging was fine, it was the rough handling by the shipping companies. One could say an egg is packaged perfectly too, but they ship eggs in special cartons designed to handle the trip.
Hopefully this means Triton will finally be in stock all of the time, instead of those using it having to always keep an extra supply on hand.
