Trochus spawning. Good or bad?

So normally my dozen or so trochus snails are hidden during the day, but today I noticed them all out and active so I decided to watch them. First I noticed one secrete a white substance and then another doing the same. Then I noticed presumably a female releasing spores or eggs.

I'm assuming this is a spawn. Can anyone confirm this is how they spawn and whether it's a good or bad sign?

I always thought snails laid egg spirals on the glass. Is it different with trochus snails?

This is known as "broadcast spawning." Some snails do it like this, others do not. The fact that this is happening is a good sign though. :thumbsup:

Fish will probably eat the eggs.
Either your fish get a meal, you get lots of baby snails, or both.

While I was siphoning my clown fry, I found one of my snails at the top of the tank releasing the same stuff. It was cool to watch and lost a few fry while doing so.

A little update. I found a baby trochus snail in my sump. About 3-4mm. Hoping a few more start popping up.

Lucky! Those guys aren't the easiest things in the world to breed. Fish see the eggs as nummy nummy snacks.
