TRON's SPS Custom Rimless Pico

You test 3x a week? Bravo sir. I tested on Friday for the first time in at least 8-9 months. My parameters were exactly where I expected. I only test the Big 3 though. With only one fish and light feeding, my nutrients are always low.

I don't really test for N03 & P04, once a month maybe... I change my KZ Carbon every 30 days as GFO every 60 days.....

I do make sure I test Alk & Ca since with the ZEOvit I can get random growth spurts that chew up 2 part and I want to make sure I don't deprive the tank...

Tron,
Do you plan on using ZeoStart? I initially didn't, being my tank is 2 years old, but after reading up on it, it seems like it goes hand in hand w/ ZeoBak.

Lol I do have a personal Zeo consultant and it hasn't come up yet but maybe soon.

They are sending, or you just bought?

Sending :)

An amazing way of them to say thank you for all my support for their new Pipeless skimmers on here and other forums, as well as giving tons of technical support to users who had trouble with initial startup.

I will be receiving one of the first shipments from their warehouse! Expected to arrive early December!

You should send me your old set up when the new one is going. :D

Sorry for the late reply, it will be an easy transition to replace my current Pico. It will be 5" longer, and 1" wider and taller, with a 2" shorter sump space in the back. So overall, substantially larger display area, which will be much appreciated by my growing corals!

sweet tank.... how do u like the new light. just wondering because im looking at the dimmable sunpower for my tank which is 24x15x15 which is not including the filtration part. its the jbj 30g rimless. I cant decide if the 4 bulb would be enough light or I should get the 6 bulb

Thanks, I love it. I got the 4 bulb since my display is only 25x10. Had it been larger for sure I would have chosen the 6 bulb for more bulb combinations...

I'm in the process of supplementing one Reefbrite Blue LED to give some more pop.

Tron, are you still using the cadlights pipeless skimmer?
Since you're giving it such rave reviews, I'm thinking of picking up their PLS-150 pipeless skimmer for my tank. Its a 30gal shallow with a 30gal sump. Any comments or suggestions?
Your tank is a true inspiration. I was running my tank skimmerless with a refugium but now think a skimmer is needed to achieve better results.

Can you list in order of importance what equipments you think are needed?
Ex... skimmers, dosers, reactors, pumps, lights, controllers etc.......

I'm now fully committed to running my tank properly. I think skimmer is #1 on the list but would like to hear your opinions.
Thanks!!!

Forgot to mention, my tank is stocked with LPS/zoas.

Hi BLK, thanks for the kind words. The CAD skimmers are well built, and simply work... they're very efficient. I don't think you need the 150, I would just go with the 100, would be better to have it work consistently than go way overboard.... Just my thoughts... I remember when my biocube was only running a fuge etc, then I upgraded glass and added a skimmer, it made the world of a difference... from injecting oxygen into the water column, to removing all those organics, I had a nice little explosion of growth.

As far as equipment goes I would put the Skimmer up at the top, followed shortly by an AutoTopOff, simply because it will free up so much time and stress from you having to go every single day and checking the water level, it will keep it streamline and stable throughout the week... same can be said about a doser, but more so with SPS, with LPS and zoas I don't see you needing that much 2part weekly to overlook the price of a good doser. I will say this though, my reef has never been so stable and consistent with parameters since I have added the doser. Even though I use ZEOvit I don't run ZEOlite stones in a reactor, and a lot of people run biopellets etc but I don't have a nutrient issue so I keep it simple with Carbon and a touch of GFO. Everything I run is automated so there wouldn't be many benefits to a controller, unless I feel like paying $500 to get email notifications on temp changes LOL (sarcasm) If you look at it, controllers will automate lighting, ato, dosing pumps, powerheads, etc... All of those are already automated for me, make sense?

Every tank setup is different, find whats best for your needs! Let me know if I can be of more assistance!
