i emailed them that same question, here's my response. keep in mind the reply was from march 2005, so i'm not sure the formula is still the same.

while our original Tropic Marin Sea Salt has about 380 ppm calcium, 1250 ppm magnesium and an alkalinity of 9Ã"šÃ‚° dKH, our PRO-REEF salt has 450 ppm calcium, 1350 ppm magnesium and an alkalinity of 7Ã"šÃ‚° dKH at a salinity of 35 psu/specific gravity of 1.0264. These are the only differences and as you see they are not big but substantial.
It is no problem to switch from the original Tropic Marin Sea Salt to our PRO-REEF salt by just beginning water changes with the PRO-REEF salt.
The benefit from the higher calcium and lower alkalinity is that it is easier to maintain a high calcium level which supports coral growth and photosynthesis as new scientific investigations show.
