Tropical Fish on Saratoga

I dont know if you folks know this but I am sure most Vietnamese people know this, the Pho Hoa on Tuly in the Lion Plaza is open 24/hrs.

I love ordering the dac biet for my girl. Everything in her bowl end up in mine except for the noodles and the thin sliced beef. I OWN THE DAC BIET. :)

How funny, 1st it was TFI, but they couldn't even get on the radar, so it moved to food :D

Dac Biet is my favorite but I also really like tai but served with the meat on the side. Siagon City in San Mateo by Fish For You is a good place but my favorite is the place right off of Lawrence and 237 whose name I can't remember. I used to eat at California Noodle House in Santa Clara at Lawrence and El Camino before they changed their name to an american name. Of course I have no idea how to pronounce their old name but I think it had to do with trains... :)

As long as we're on the food topic anyone else notice that L&L Hawaiian BBQ is growing in leaps and bounds these days? My favorite Hawaiian place is Da Kitchen by shoreline though. That's a good plate lunch along with the spam fried rice! mmmmmm.....

Yeh they are popping up ALL OVER!

Pho Saigon in San Mateo is pretty nasty, they americanize their pho and dilute it quite a bit. Pho Y is probably one that I would have my vote. Pho Saigon is also here in Fremont on Mission.

Pho Y is on Capitol Expressway and Silver Creek in SJ..

Those Pho places in SJ bowl size are pathetic. Their large bowl is about the size of the small bowls that I'm used to get.

I also noticed that a lot of places don't even open until 10AM or later. Don't they know Pho is breakfast food to most of us?

Because most vietnameses don't get up until 12  ..

j/k
Not a lot of Vietnameses eat Pho in the Morning. That's why...

yah, cause we eat pho all day long.

Actually, most places open @ 9am, I doubt you'll see any place that'll open earlier than 8am.

And a negative for Pho Hoa being 24/7, I think they're only allowed to open to 2am only now per the city.

BTW, I don't think breakfast was ever part of the Vietnamese thing. I think the day start with some labor and maybe snacks, but brunch/lunch and dinner is all I really see when I was back in VN.

Yah, usually places that open late are those that are nasty and can't compete during the regular business hours. Hence they open late to scrape the loose crowds that have no choice @ night when everything else is closed.

Drunken Pho is better than drunken Denny's at 3AM!

It's all preference of how you like it coming out. :eek2:

only problem is when you're drinking you can add too much pepper oil or srirachi and end up with.... well you know....

I've tried many Pho in the Bay Area. Pho Saigon is my regular place, currently, because it's close to my work, Oracle. They also have another store in Cupertino on Homestead/Wolf. I would give them 6 (maybe 7) out of 10. Pho Hoa is definitely one of the last place i go to. Pho Y is also a 7.

My favorite places are: Pho Cong Ly on Santa Clara and Pho Dac Phuc in downtown SJ. If you like Pho and never try chicken Pho, you definitely need to go to Pho AnNam on Story across from Wal-Mart.

Dan, I believe the Pho place that you mentioned on 237 is called Pho Queen.

on the other side of Lawrence. I'll look up the name, I found it on chowhound...

Used to get tai ga at one of the regular places which is pho tai with chicken added, I prefer the regular pho noodles to the noodles usually served with chiken.

hey, some pho joints in downtown sanfran open early. i ate in one that opens 5am. i was surprised and asked who eats pho at 5am, the owner said come in at 5 and you'll be surprised. haven't taken up his offer. how late a pho joint stays open is far more important to me. it absorbs lots of alcohol, and in worse case scenario...it comes backward very smoothly.

Pho Queen on Lawrence/Tasman. Pho Binh on Lawrence/237, they closed last year, used to be our lunch place every Monday with Cisco buddies during the .com era)

Pho To Chau in MountainView is worth a try too, not a bad place. Speaking of To Chau, there is a Pho To Chau in Hawaii, Ohau island, located in China town. It's one of the best, but an hour wait is too long for pho. I've been to Hawaii every year in the past 5 year, and every time we pass by, they always have line, a block long....amazing...

there a little hole in the wall pho place on broadway by chinatown.i know they're open pass 2 am .the best pho place in SF i try them all is on clement between 3rd avenue and 4th avenue especially pho cai.Ngo Mai is still had the best spicey noodle tho.i try to stop going to this place,i gain too much weight lately.
