I just paid a visit to the store today to see how the room looked. They have the room open now....many AGA tanks holding fish, corals, etc....not a lot of selection yet on fish or corals, but they definitely have the potential now....they have a lot of aquariums on the floor for sale...tough to resist because their prices are so reasonable on them:D

If they get that side of the store stocked up, they will be a major contender for SW in Saint Louis....hopefully, their prices will be reasonable too...a few of their acro frags were $30 which was their sale price and no SLASH discount on top of that...so they are definitely on the pricey side. I think if they can stock the place up and get their coral/fish prices down a little, that they will be a great store for SW here in St. Louis.

John told me that they would let me know when they're ready to host a pizza night. I think he's waiting until he gets a lot of livestock before he lets me know.

They're FINALLY open? Seems like everytime I talked to them for the last few months they'd say " Nope, not yet - two more weeks."

Man, that was a long 2 weeks, but it's good to know that they're open now.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think this is a good post?

If someone else would post hopefully, their prices will be reasonable too...a few of their acro frags were $30 which was their sale price and no SLASH discount on top of that...so they are definitely on the pricey side.[/QUOTE]

I personally think that goes back to what the MOD's ask you to do, and that is, if you have a complaint about a LFS simply state your opinion by not taking your business there and not posting it here.
Lead by example...Not, do as I say, not as I do

Maybe I'm just taking this the wrong way but I read this several times before posting but I just think this is terrible.

I find it hard to believe that TWP is going to have major problems because someone posted the price of a coral they saw there. I really hope it doesn't come to the point where we can't even get a general idea of how stores (especially stores that just started a worthwhile SW section) are pricing their items.

TWP is a 45 minute drive for me. It is kind of on my way home from work, but I hardly ever feel like going there because if I do it's over an hour to get home from work. So I for one am pretty interested in details like those given in this thread since this place is out of my way.

Plus, I don't think this was a complaint, just an observation.

My take on it is that it was a MOD who posted that. If it had been a regular poster it would have gotten the standarized response of "if you have an issue with any of the LFS's simply exercise your opinion by not spending money at that store" (or something along those lines)

TWP is fine and I have no complaints. I just simply saw it and considered it a double standard. But as I stated in my first reply, it could have simply been my perception of the post.

I am so glad that they're open! I hope they're open on Sundays, because if they are I'm going! How is the new place set up? Are there frag tanks and then walls of fish or what? You should've taken your camera Nook! :D

"Pricey" is in the eye of the beholder. We'll work on John as far as the SLASH discount goes.

Wonder if the horse head in his bed will make a difference?:D

I wasn't bashing the LFS, just making an observation about their prices..fwiw, I really like TWP and wish them the best of success in their new endeavors with saltwater. Sorry you took me the wrong way, Reggae;)

In re-reading my post, I can see how it looks like I was bashing on them...for that I apologize. I am really glad to see that TWP has made the leap to the big time and I plan on supporting them with my dollars when I have them.

I really do like TWP and always have, they have always been a class act and I think they do a great job. My comments about the pricing should have been left out in retrospect.

I wasnt going to post on this, but I really think Dave posted nothing out of line. An observation as a consumer is NOT LFS bashing IMO.

Also his being a Mod should not preclude him from voicing an opinion. I value Daves observations and input highly and would be saddened if he didnt post as often or voice his opinion since he is a "mod"

I just cant see how his post was a complaint as you stated. Just my 2 cents

I don't think that I said that he was "bashing"

If I would go to a LFS and the worker/workers were rude or that they didn't know what they were talking about and I were to post that, it would not be allowed even though that is my "observation as a consumer"

I was trying to imply that I thought the thread would have been more helpful if it had simply not had the issue of the price. As I also stated in both of my replies, it could very well be the way I perceived the thread.

I apologize for anyone who has construed this as anything negative. It truly wasn't my intention but I think it came out that way. So, I apologize for any misunderstandings to all.

Well,

Let me weigh in on this... and I do carry some extra!!!

I don't think they pull your posts or lock your threads for giving opinions on your experiences at LFS. They get a bit of an itchy trigger finger when people make blanket statements about their LFS and the people that work there.

We had a decent experience at Andy's Thursday. I know some that don't care for Andy at all, but he has been decent to me. I have stated myself on this board many times that Andy's seems like two worlds to me sometimes. One day it looks perfect and loads of livestock. The next day it is like a dirt bomb went off in his tanks and everything looks like hell. That has happened to me on at least one occassion.
Not always a fact, and not a blanket statement, just one experience as a consumer.

The Nook is a Mod, and as such he is immediately suspect for lack of morals/scruples... sort of like a lawyer... I do know from personal knowledge that he takes the job seriously, even when friends are involved. He's got some integrity, he just can't always remember where he puts it... plus he likes Capo...

The moral of the story is, give your honest opinions, and not make blanket statements, and I think the mods will pretty much leave you alone. There are always that 10% though....
