Couldn't agree more. If your don't know any better you would think it is a decent shop with some nice stuff compared to the box pet stores. but then when you finally get to one of the nice reef stores it really opens your eyes up. What did it for me was going to Midwest Coral Farms. This place blew me away, the people were very nice knowledgable and took time with you to answer every question even when they were packed. They seemed to honestly care about the hobby, the guys that worked there. It's too bad they stopped selling to the public. Tropiquantics just seems to be in it for a profit and to make a sale. Not all the guys who work there are bad, there are a couple I do like who are very nice and helpful. But, I can't stand the owner. When I was younger I rode my bike up there to look at the fish and he told me if I wasn't going to buy anything to get out.

Never had any interaction with the owner, I agree the selection is not the greatest. I did find a tiger watchman goby there that I hadn't seen at any other LFS and I snatched him up. I tend to only go days my friend works there. Is it great? not at all. Is it terrible? not in my opinion. I would give the place a 2.5 out of 5. It's average.

Went there about 20 years ago when I lived in Elmhust and was just starting in saltwater. Bought some damsels to cycle the tank. Brought them back 6 weeks later after cycle. Bought a small lion fish and a small puffer. Got up next morning lion was dead. A few days later the puffer started discoloring. Talked to owner of tropiquatics and he said bring the puffer in and let me look at him. I said isnt that going to put even more stress on the fish. Anyway brought him in. Owner looked at him and said bring him back home and see what happens. And then he said the quote I will never forget. (Thats saltwater get used to it) Puffer died the next day. Never been back there.
