Troubles with my orchid dottyback

I just recently added an Orchid Dottyback to my 90 g. As soon as I put him in, he went into the rocks and I have not seen him since. (30 hours) I've tried the power head on the rock without success. I'm worried about him eating and just his health in general. Is there any other tricks or is this nothing to worry about?

Is it safe for us to presume that you did a careful acclimation for this fish and therefore, that he's still alive? I don't think it's unusual for this species to hide for two or three days, so I wouldn't worry yet.

No need to worry yet - it's normal, especially if you have other more agressive or larger fish. It will come out eventually when it's hungry and can take a while for these fish to "come out of their shells".

I agree. I have had an Orchid for about 2 years and they are bold, hardy fish. Just give him a couple of days to settle into your system. Avoid the urge to "drive him out" with powerheads and re-arranging the rock.

Worst case he has perished and there is nothing you can do at this point. Best case, he is just getting accustomed to the new tank and establishing a territory. He will be out and feeding soon.
