Troubleshooting a 6100 that won't start

Hello Roger,

I recently purchased a group of used Tunze equipment from another hobbyist to add to what I'm already using. The pumps were from a system that was dismantled, and they were not cleaned before being stored dry, so they were covered in calcium deposits. After a long vinegar soak and thorough cleaning, one of the 6100s still does not run.

When I plug it in (without the controller) the propeller kicks back and forth a few times, with intermittent beeps from the driver unit. After a few seconds, the pumps stops and the driver alarms continuously. The propeller assembly does rotate by hand, although there is some resistance at one point through the rotation.

I started swapping parts between this one and a working 6100 to help isolate the problem.

-swapped out the driver, same result.
-swapped out the impeller, same result.
-put the bad unit's impeller in a working 6100, and confirmed it works just fine.

Before replacing the motorblock (6100.10), any other suggestions?

Also, I notice that there is a certain amount of "wiggle" with the propellers on all of these pumps (6100s and a wavebox pump). Is that a sign that of worn bearings, or normal? The wavebox pump in particular is a little noisy when running, like the magnet assembly is moving around too much.

Thanks,

Jeff

It sounds like they may be worn, they do wiggle slightly there is about .2mm of play. It sounds like you have narrowed it down to the motor block. If you have a watt meter like the KILL O WATT you could check, if the wattage is higher than rated the eletronics in the motor or driver are damaged.
