true newbie - how what when why?

you are going to need moderate to strong light for an anemone. very clean water(good skimmer) and a fuge might help with natural foods.

i would save the money from the mud for the skimmer, and if you want sand just put some in for the bugs to craw through

just what stidd said, even though i already had a tank set up so much has changed in the 1 1/2 years ago when i set it up. that is the reason as well as lots of planning and visualization of what you want to do and keep as well as loooking at so many setups over the months and coming up with one i knew i would not have to upgrade anything once it was ready to rock. been there and done that with previous tanks.

hve seen 2@ 42" white lights
1@ 42" blue light to run on a timer 2 hours before and after white light.
is the mud that expensive? is the mud not special? - just somewhere for the bugs?

kind of a waste in most reefer opinions, more prefer the live sand over the mus as you have to change out the mud a few times a year at most.

left it in there as when i moved and to set up the 29 from townhouse teardown to new home setup until the 75rr was ready to go.

what kind of lights? PC,NO, HO, VHO? how many watts?

some of these muds CLAIM to add minerals and trace elements to the water, much the same way the some sand CO. CLAIM aragonite sand buffers your CA/ALK. but they cant because your PH would have to be below 7 to dissolve them and everything in your tank would be dead at that point.

i wouldnt waste my money on it

PC,NO, HO, VHO? how many watts - don't know lol man in shop said these will do!

so in my refugium i just want sand 2@ stat,1@ skimmer,1@ return pumpand a big as possible surface area sand or big depth???

what are the bio balls about

megaflow overflows weren't available a few years ago they weres till reef ready but the only part for water to enter the colum was at the top, now bottom, middle, top. just what i was saying about things changing in this hobby like when you buy a new computer it is obsolete in a few years or so much ,more technology has been developed and put put on the market.

I found that starting with a couple of books really helped me. Get 'em used through Amazon. Here are two general getting-started types:

"The New Marine Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup & Stocking Guide" by Michael S. Paletta

"The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists" by Robert M. Fenner

And here are three that should help with your specific interests:

"Clownfishes" by Joyce D. Wilkerson

"Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History" by Eric H. Borneman

"Marine Fishes: 500+ Essential-To-Know Aquarium Species" by Scott W. Michael

well ive put in 2 1" drain holes 4" from top of tank. i want to add a bit of pipe to these that i can tilt to adjust the flow will this be enough?

the are so many was to do things in this hobby coreectly and ignorantly but you have to have patience regardless of what you do.

thanks sbjim i'll look them up - most books i've found just aren't specific enough- what i need is someone one who knows. anyone out there got some money to set up a marine shop round here, tap in to a hole in the market?? - they just don't know they want it!!!

ive looked around mostly tropical freshwater club but theres one BI-ANNUAL meeting for marines 50 miles away lol everythings against me!!!
