can anypone post a pic of a true black perc?

Really? I have a mature BW perc (I thought) The mouth and underbelly are still orange and the fins have a little orange as well. I thought this is how you could tell it was a perc. as the ocellaris turn completely black when mature, right? Anyways I bought it as a BW perc.

yeah that pic is over 6 months old.. the tang is fine now...

if i may ask

percula = true

ocellaris = false

is that what you guys mean when you talk about clowns a percs and ocellaris?

that looks like a black oscellaris to me. there are no true black perculas, though many LFS here label their black saddlebacks as "black percula". They usually go for around $15.

A. ocellaris is often sold under the common name false percula.

It is always best to use latin names when possible/known.

I just bought a pair of what the fish store was calling black and white percs. One store had a pair of Black and White Oscellaris so they told me to go to their other store and they had black and white percs. If there was no difference, why would one owner sell the same fish as different types. Mine are all black and white except the nose area and the side fins which are a slight yellow. I was told that the oscellaris's top fin is black and with the perculas the white band extends up along the top fin. Was I told a lie?

The ones with slight yellow are a black variant of A. polymnus, aka Saddle Back Clowns.

The first store likely had the captive bred black variant of A. ocellaris.

Typcially the A. percula with the most black, white, and some orange, will be sold as "Onyx Percula." for more money.
