My female clown spawned on Thursday. It appeared the male was fertalizing them during and after. They have intently protected and cleaned around the eggs since. Today most of the eggs are a darker color than the original orange. Almost a dark brown. Have they died??? This is their first spawning since I have had them. Prior to me owning them they spawned regularly for 2 years in another reef tank. I have ordered Joyce wilkersons book, it arrives tueday. I also have set up a larvae rearing station that is actually quite elaborate. I would like to someday raise the larvae. Basically my question is do the eggs change color while waiting fot them to hatch????? Other than the silver eye I am supposed to see the night before hatching.

They are laid a bright orange color and after days they turn brown, dark brown
and then start to turn clear.
You can then make out some black eyes.
When you see some silver eyes,
the next day you will see alot of silver eyes, then the day of hatching, all the
eyes will be silver....that means they will be hatching.

If there is not complete darkness, the hatch will be in the wee hours or even the next night.

If there is total darkness, the hatch will occur within minutes to hours after lights out.
Usually 30min to 1 hour after lights out.

also, the male and female, will take care of the eggs. No need to clean or anything.
The male will pick off the dead ones, so dont be worried if you end up with less than half in the next few days,
