True Unions wtb locally

I'm starting to plumb our new 150 - and just realized - I've got 2 overflows.......
So I'm hunting for another pair of Haywood true union ball valves.
Do any of the local fish stores stock them?

Thanks,

Fuzz

Thanks for the replies!

Hard to believe, the Lowes on John Young and Sand Lake actually had some decent unions in stock. So I'm good to go!

Now I just need to figure out how to post some pics.....

You probably know this, but for those that do not know, make sure you always get a true union ball valve when you are plumbing in a pump. They are expensive, but worth it when you want to shut off a device and remove it without water all over the place. There are some ball valves with a union on one side, but when you take the union ring off, the ball is not seated and you have water all over.
How much was it at Lowes?

Hi Rick,

I got the unions at Lowes - I think they were around $12. I'll let you know how they hold up - but so far they seem fine.
I am sticking with the Haywards on the pumps, but am going to try these on the send and return lines.
We were in a big time crunch to move, so I didn't have time to head out to Aquatic Eco.
Everyone said expect your house to sell in 5-6 months.......
WRONG - our Conway house sold in 2 weeks, our Lake Nona house took 3.........
So much for taking our time setting up the new place......

SO, I took off one of my Hayward unions and put it side by side with the American Valve (made in China) from Lowes. Believe it or not, it is a true union.
It appears to be very well made and is a slightly smaller clone of the Hayward.
The only big difference is there is a flow direction arrow molded into the body, and the ball valve works a bit harder than the Hayward.

I'm still trying to decide how to plumb this beastie. I'm sticking with my Velocity T3 (800 gph) for the mains.
And have a T2 (600gph) for a closed loop. I was thinking of using a Sqwd or a sea swirl for some movement. No powerheads in this tank!
So if you're in the Windermere area I'd love to get your input.

Thanks,

Nick

Hey, Nick- sounds like we are neighbors now!
I love my sea swirl, very reliable. Don' do with the sqwd unless you like to take it apart often and clean it, and it robs a bit of you precious water flow. Not sure about the T2 & T3, but T-4 will add a lot of heat to the system, but very quiet. Iwakis are real hard to beat for performance, life and noise. Let's get together and chat!

Hi Rick -
Yeppers we're right off 429 and 535, south of Stoneybrook West. In a new development called Summerport.
So far we really like the area. Our oldest daughter and her family live there too - so the grandkids visit a lot.
Drop me a line when you are available. I'd really like a 2nd opinion on plumbing this thing.

So - I plumbed in half the tank, and the imitation Durso that came with it needs help.
The water level bounces and makes a lot of noise. So I'm going to do some adjusting on the size of the air flow ports.
And after all our chats about the unions from Lowes, one of my Haywards started leaking out of the handle.
Go figure.....

Oh well, at least I caught it before I went to work.....

Thanks,

Nick
