trying something new to feed the mandarin

That whole fish eating off of glue thing worries me.

That's why I'm wondering if anyone has any better ideas of what to use to stick the food to the acrylic sheet. Although once the glue settles, it is basically inert plastic, as far as I am aware.

i know this might sound dumb...but after reading this thread i had an idea but it may not work like i think it will...if you use your food wall idea...i was thinkin maybe you can take the acrylic wall...lay it down flat...put a small amount of water on the acrylic spread it around so the acrylic is alittle damp than put the food of choice on it..let it dry over night and possibly it will stick to the wall after drying...or freeze it in the freezer over night and it will freeze to the acrylic...lol sounds almost like it will work...it sounds like it might be a good idea lol sorry if it doesnt work lol

You guys keep coming up with ideas of how to stick food to a surface, but have you thought about how the fish will get it off? The pods it is naturally hunting are crawling on rocks or other surfaces they aren't stuck to them, I doubt a mandarin can pluck food off a surface like you are expecting it to.

Amen to that. Why not simply culture copepods? Mandarins need to eat constantly. Mine eat mysis but subsist on copepods.

You may be right. Quite possibly you are. And I do have a copepod culture in my basement (I am trying to cover all my bases to give the fish the best possible chance). But in the mean time, if this idea works it may give reefers an alternative to the commonly used techniques today.

In terms of how it will get the pods off, I am trying to work on a way to stick them on loosely (hence my caramel adhesive idea), but am still tinkering with the exact way I want to do it.

Mine will eat anything, but since I cannot feed continuously, they survive on copepods. You see, the eating is not the problem, it is the need for continuous eating that is the real issue.
