Ok so i'm wanting to get a pair of maroon clowns, but since i can't seem to find an already est. pair I guess i will have to do it the old fashion way. So my question is should i get the smaller male first and then a larger female, two the same size, or am i really wasting my time and wishfully thinking?

There is a great FAQ at the top of this thread about pairing clownfish.

Maroons are usually considered the most difficult to pair. Follow the recommendations carefully. The larger fish should be purchased first and you want as much size difference as possible in your pairing. How the fish are introduced to each other is important, please read the FAQ.

hard topic. how much beating can u stand? I only tried once so far, I couldent watch it anymore. i got worried about the lil guy. but ive been reading ever since and I think I should have tried a little longer.

theres some great threads on this about 2 or 3 pages back as well.

I got mine mated with no issues. The female (~3.5") was in first. After about a 10 days I decided to try and pair her up. I went to the store and bought the smallest one they had (~1.5"). After acclimating him for about 45 minutes I put him in the tank and stood by with my nets. After a few minutes they found each other fought for a a minute and then ignored each other(mostly) for a few days. 3 days after I added the smaller one they were hanging out in the same area of the tank. 7 days into it they were sleeping together. And now a month later they are happy together in the GBTA I got them last week.

That's all I had to do. I've been told I was REALLY lucky.
