I got this little guy for $8 at the LFS. I wanted to atleast try and save him.

As you can see, he has no tentacles so I can't target feed him.
When a brain loses it's central digetive system is it doomed, or can the remaining fleshy material still grow back if it still have zooxaethelia? (i can't spell that....)
I hope this guy isn't jsut a lost cause :(

they charged you for it? i'd give it to ya, then if it gets better you cna pay for it.

bot--if it isn't too far gone (how long has it been down) it may make it just fine. does it inflate at all?

No it doesn't inflate at all, there are only a few "fleshy" parts left inbetween the ridges. Most parts that have color aren't really "fleshy" looking they are just color. If that makes any sense.
I'm not sure how long he's bee down like that. maybe a week... possibly two.

Thanks

Keep the coral in a well lit area of the tank and feed it. You'll want to get some finely chopped meaty foods. Best time to feed is an hour or two after the lights go out as that is when the feeder tentacles will be out. Hopefully, the coral is well enough to feed...

Good luck!

Here is a pic taken about 10mins ago. The other was from 2 days ago.

The arrows and circles indicate spots that still have fleshy material with a bit of color. Some are inbetween ridges, it's not the green they're pointing too hehe.

Now since he doens't have any feeder tentacles I can'lt target feed him, so the flesh remaining I assume, is totally dependant on photosynthesis.
If this is true, should I place him in more light or keep him under the colt coral on a a ledge like he is now ?

Thanks for your help.

The coral looks much better in the first picture. Is that just the picture?

As yo ucan see, there has been quite a lot of white fleshy growth on the skeleton, but all of the color has disappeared.
Is that white flesh some sort of algae, or the brain regrowing ?

Thanks !

I can't beleive they CHARGED you for that!!! My LFS had some caulastrea(sp?) that was VERY BADLY receded, wanted to charge me 30 bucks for 4 heads, I said unless you offer me at least half price I don't want it, it's freakin half dead, then they wanted 80, yes, 80 bucks for a 160g bucket of Reef Crystals salt, I had a VERY HARD time not laughing in their face! I mean, COME ON!! That's a 100% freakin mark up!! I walked out, won't ever go back either!!

Oh yeah, (sorry, I was ranting) I'm not sure if that is brain growth, algae, or possibly a sponge, though.

I really hope the little guy pulls through though! :D

GoodLuck,
Brianna:rollface:

Yea i read that little brain that could thread.
thanks for the link

I wish i could target feed him... but he doesn't have anything to feed with, so i think it's hopeless =(

Least i tried i guess.....
