Trying to salvage something from lights.........

I got my new lights, 2 250w hqi metal halide pendants, and I love them, but I miss my actinics......... so I got to thinking I could salvage my actinics from the Oddysea lights, since they have a separate ballast and didn't go up in flames like the halide ballast did. I was able to get them out of the old hood and I think with a different reflector, I should be able to mount them in my hood.

I'm wondering if I should attempt to remove the moonlights too and try and re-use them. The were coupled with the halide and fan wiring, and although I'm sure I could get the wiring all separated out, I'm not sure if I would trust them again, as it was when I flipped the moonlight switch on that the flames came. I'm thinking there was just too many things going into that ballast, so if I take out the halide and fan wiring, it should be ok to use. What do you think? There are six moonlights and it would be really cool to have them........

You could reuse the actinics all you would need if some of the clip on reflectors.

The pendants look sharp.

The 12v converter for them is in the fixture I believe, not the ballast box. I could be wrong though, i know the 12v fan converter is in the fixture. You could reuse them, but mounting them probably won't be much fun.

^ that is for the moonlights. You shouldn't have too big of a problem reusing the actinics, just get some sort of bulb clips to mount them.

Let me know when you'll be available and I'll come take a look if you'd like (electronics degree from years ago).

My canopy has the 4 65w pc's that I ripped from my Coralife hood a few years ago so I did something similar.

Besides - Amanda and I are heading for a cruise and we may need a "fishsitter" :D

Well, I think I answered my own question.......... Odyssea wired the moonlights with the halides, so they use the same plug. I could re-use the LED's and mounting, but would have to construct a different plug.

The actinics look like they'll be no problem, just need a different reflector and mounts.

The fan's look fine, if I had any idea how to wire them so they worked :)

The 2 halide ballasts look ok, it's the area where the wires connect that got fried/melted. I suppose someone who knew about electronics could use most of this stuff........ I've totally disassembled the whole thing, sort of fun/therapuetic :D
